If I had been the driver I would have said, "don't worry about the mess as long as you and the baby are OK I'm happy". Some drivers really get my back up.

Why should this get your back up. It is not as though the car didn't need cleaning is it? It is not as though the car would not have been off the road and the driver unable to earn whilst it was being cleaned is it? Why should the driver be out of pocket?
It very commendable that you would have taken the hit yourself but I can't see how you can object to someone else being paid what is rightfully his. He was not trying to rip the woman off was he?

Oh come on please the stuff isn't poison it's hardly going to melt your seats, 20 minutes with a decent extraction machine and your good to go again.

This parasite driver with his eyes glued to the meter are the sort that need weeding out and signs being put on their cars saying, "I'll extract every penny I can from you".

This was a life being bought into the world something any man would be proud to be in attendance of.

I thought you of all people would have understood Grandad but sadly not??  [/list]

The seats may be cloth and take a day to dry. If you were a woman giving birth, I am sure you would not have time to look at the driver all the while and tell that he was "staring at the meter". Maybe he was not to look at what was happening in case he was accused of being a peeping tom. Also most drivers seem to be doing very little work so losingt the shifts takings could mean that he can't pay his mortgage or that his family can't eat for the da. You can't possibly know the drivers circumstances. The drivers side has not been given.

Your using the wrong machine and technique. Ive got one of these, 20 minutes I'm dry and good to go

Exactly what I was implying, good PR for the driver and company.

Oh lord the back of a TX Black cab??? The drying time would have been even quicker due to the vinyl seats and plastic floor, a quick wipe down then mop the floor and he's good to go.

Billy no mates is a good description of him.

It would be nice to have a mug-shot of Billy-no-mates on this thread.

The one question nobody has asked is why was this woman in a taxi and not an ambulance? I know here you can't phone for an ambulance if you go into labour, you have to make your own way to the hospital. Personally I think that's unacceptable

My guess is that the reason is - if the waters break - nobody will pay for the clean up in the Ambulance.

I suspect she thought she had time, yet baby decided otherwise.

Did she not have a husband or partner or a family member with a car?
There is no mention of a husband or partner in the original story.
Why did she not ask the taxi to go straight to the hospital instead of going round to her fathers house first?

It would make no difference if she thought she had time or otherewise. The fact still remains that you can't phone for an ambulance if you go into labour and that's the bit I find unacceptable.

Her waters might have broken when she was in the cab.

I was told that when I was expecting my babies, not sure of the relevance to what I said though. My gripe is at the fact that you can longer phone for an ambulance to take you to the hospital if you go into labour

The point is..................She has gone to and involved the press!, why does she need to do that? generally you do that when you are trying to get your own way!!!!!!!!! like not wanting to pay for anything

The driver could have been absolutely lost as to what to do and where to look. If he put his hands in the wrong place.................Oh he took the opportunity to touch her up.

A difficult situation and not one that I would have wanted or charged for, but if as already mentioned the woman had offered (just offered) the cleaning up charge then I would have had a bit more sympathy for her, and would have known that she was genuine.I cannot for that reason fall on her side.

As it is.........................she is up for sympathy, and does not see why she should pay for anything!!!
