Yeah so are ours but you can still unplug them and go indoors with it

Can't with ours bcause the connection goes belly up.

Are they charging properly or is the battery goosed?
The GPRS/phone connection is the first thing the pda turns off when power is low

No everything is turned on just when you go inside connection and GPS goes belly up, to get a job you have to wave the thing in the air for it to get a connection.

I know GPS drifts with mercury but connection might be same as with a phone. Lately most people break up if in their house on mobile.
As for the GPS, datamaster seems to ignore the drifting. Probably cos they sort out problems when they arise rather than mercury's approach of 'they'll forget that problem when a few more pop up'

It's not exactly rocket science; the GPS unit sends the speed as well as the position so if your not moving when an area change occurs, then its got to be drift and so gets ignored. Other than that if the cars stationary for more than a certain amount of time we effectively put the GPS handbrake on. We've had problems in the past with GPS drift especially where a zone is something like a taxi rank or office car park where you're dealing with something less than 100 metres but problems only exist to be sorted so we sorted them!

I don't think Nigel’s problem though is GPS related unless Mercury intentionally block communication in the absence of valid GPS data. It's quite common to loose GPS indoors as the satellite signals are extremely weak while the GPRS (mobile phone network) signals are generally quite strong in comparison. So, if it's actually the connection that's dropping it may just be that Nige lives in a very poor reception area ?

Hi Bill, half the system is still down this morning and the amount of bull we are getting from Mercury is a joke, it's that high it's blocking the M1 this morning.

You mention a poor reception area?? We've got more mobile masts round here than you can shake a stick at, every network gets full strength no matter where you are.

Mecury's excuse is again a "local" network issue with Orange. My daughter has got the HTC PDA on orange which she uses for work, Emails and Sat Nav when she's on the road, her's is working OK locally and nationally with no issues at all so, the blame lies at the door of Mr Richard Moore and his shady outfit, invioces not being paid again?? We've been here before with Mr Moore.

That’s all a bit odd then because we receive direct notification of any issues affecting the Orange network right across the UK and there were no reported network issues in your area today?

I asked them and they didn't even ask which taxi firm, so I assume it is the same for everyone

Now I have Datamaster running thru a Mercury router. Come on BT, get your asses down to our office

With a fleet of 80 vehicles it wasn't easy.
Had most pdas set to run both systems but as expected some drivers left it til the last minute.
Desk staff learned the system very quickly. Getting easier now the phone number database is building up again.
Some drivers, even though it's almost identical to work with, are giving me loads of grief asking obvious questions.
Great to see returning calls popping up the booking required before you can even say a word.
At last we have a system that plans ahead and helps operators rather than increase their work load.
I'm not saying Datamaster is the best but having worked with it before, I can't fault it. 'Best' depends on what you imagined.
At least no more system crashes lasting up to 3 hours. Datamaster just fires up as soon as pc has booted.
The datamaster team are always happy to help, even when asked about something that is so obvious if I'd only looked a bit further.
Highly recommended

I thought it was a common name in the midlands and never related it to a certain ex-poster of this here parish.

As for jedidaz's datamaster testimonial, good to read of another happy follower. If all goes well, from tomorrow, I'll be the next to sing their praise. So far all I'll say is Bill has the patience of a saint.

We are just about to hit our first anniversary with Datamaster, and as I have mentioned before our job counts have gone up and up. I have never known a company like them. They are always there for you when you need them, no matter what time of the day or night. In fact i'm starting to think Matt is a cyborg, he is always awake, bright and breezy. :D
