It's not exactly rocket science; the GPS unit sends the speed as well as the position so if your not moving when an area change occurs, then its got to be drift and so gets ignored. Other than that if the cars stationary for more than a certain amount of time we effectively put the GPS handbrake on. We've had problems in the past with GPS drift especially where a zone is something like a taxi rank or office car park where you're dealing with something less than 100 metres but problems only exist to be sorted so we sorted them!
I don't think Nigel’s problem though is GPS related unless Mercury intentionally block communication in the absence of valid GPS data. It's quite common to loose GPS indoors as the satellite signals are extremely weak while the GPRS (mobile phone network) signals are generally quite strong in comparison. So, if it's actually the connection that's dropping it may just be that Nige lives in a very poor reception area ?
Hi Bill, half the system is still down this morning and the amount of bull we are getting from Mercury is a joke, it's that high it's blocking the M1 this morning.
You mention a poor reception area?? We've got more mobile masts round here than you can shake a stick at, every network gets full strength no matter where you are.
Mecury's excuse is again a "local" network issue with Orange. My daughter has got the HTC PDA on orange which she uses for work, Emails and Sat Nav when she's on the road, her's is working OK locally and nationally with no issues at all so, the blame lies at the door of Mr Richard Moore and his shady outfit, invioces not being paid again?? We've been here before with Mr Moore.
