Councillors agree to seek more information before making taxi decisions

A Dundee taxi operator says he is "absolutely delighted" after the city's licensing committee agreed to defer its decision on controversial proposals that have caused heated debate among cab drivers.

Doug Martin of Tay Taxis made the comment after councillors narrowly voted, four to three, not to press ahead with recommendations put before them in a report by the local authority.

Mr Martin forgot to point out to the committee that he is " absolutely delighted" being able to extract an income from a dead operator who's vehicle and plate still operates from his office ! and that it is all profit as no revenue can be paid by a dead man.

You also knew what you signed on for.
Your council have always had the right to determine what can and can't be a taxi, and they have always had the right to vary the conditions attached to it.
So why are you crying about it?

A bit confusing why a Unite Rep acting on his members requests, in one Scottish City is asking for a cap on numbers and, another Rep in Dundee is quite happy to hang his members out to dry in order to protect his own interests  and see already spiralling numbers increase monthly.

Then you have the SNP activists whilst taking Association membership fees, using their vested interests to shaft the same members

i certainly hope my fellow Dundee cabbies are now seeing the light regarding the above and, will seek fair and unpredujiced representation elsewhere.

Your problem is the ideology. How can anyone claim to represent the working man while restricting his access to the tools of his trade? You might want a cap on plates but doesn't that put a union at odds with at least some of its members? Who says who gets what and who doesn't and who pays what and who doesn't? Isn't a cap on plates a conflict of interest when it creates a vested interest group? :-|

Gary,
you and some others continaully use the words "vested interest" as if it is some sort of terrible thing.
Surely you realise that if every one who had a "vested interest" had no input into taxi affairs then there would be no input from owners, drivers or indeed anyone connected with the trade.
Everything would need to be decided by outsiders.
You and mad jimmy have a vested interest yourselves.

Through associations, unions, radio companies, taxi suppliers and even councillors.

But as everyone has a "vested interest" you no doubt think they should shut up and let you speak for them as a self proclaimed spokesman.

Your arrogance is astounding!

No Frank, it is your stupidity that's astounding.

A driver's status is simply that of casual labour. They don't have a voice let alone a vested interest to protect.

You are a dreamer Frank "through associations, unions, radio companies, taxi suppliers and even councillors". You have got to be kidding.

I don't believe that you believe some of the shi*e you come out with.

You and mad jimmy would just love to be spokesmen for Edinburgh taxi drivers, wouldn't you.

But as you have made fools of yourselves so many times over so many years, it ain't gonna happen.

Try Dundee or Aberdeen.

Both DTA and SNP implement the " Famous 25ft turning circle " and head in the other direction  in saloon cars !

Dundee's senior SNP activist Mr. Waters and Mr. Hunter both decide that another option should be added to the forthcoming consultation in order to retain saloon status by way of a mixed fleet.

As for Unite Union members..they vote for same while discriminating against other members !

Your allegations are hearsay...what's above is in black and white !

i may just object to his after he stole and sold various bits from the TX2 then, tried to charge me after my cab failing the test twice ! maybe even get Vosa involved eh ?

and if you wanna start...on you go ! like the bible says..."let he who is without sin, cast the first stone"

Cannot believe you'd stoop to such a level in order to gain some favour  but two can play that game
