Taxi Driver Online

Plymouth city council in their wisdom have made me take out the n/s middle row seat, as it is now a public safety issue (customers cannot get out of the back 2 seats quickly enough, especially in busy areas). this will also apply to drivers renewing their vechicle's p/h plate.

I would like to hear from other p/h drivers that own galaxys in busy areas of the country.

I will be getting advise from ford as I am sure they will not be too happy about it!

Chelmsford too require the removal of the n/s seat, Uttlesford council do not.
It something to do with an approved floor plan, vehicles such as the Fiat Ulysses are approved in Chelmsford with the full compliment of seats, but somewhere along the line the floor plan has been agreed by the Council.

I would say on the Galaxies this is a common occurance. Most lads down here, that want 6 seaters, get the Renault, the Chrysler, or the Seat.

All very nice, and in some cases cheaper than the Ford.

All that aside, wouldn't it be nice if Ford took a council to task over this seating issue. If they spend millions making a motor safe, then why should an unqualified LO say no?

surley a case for rules and regulations to be taken out of the councils hands and run centraly so every one knows from lands end to john o'groats knows wether it would be plated for 5 or 6 what a stupid industry

Well you just never know.

The Gov have sort of promised us a set of guidelines later this year, following on from the OFT Report.

What I would like most of all is a national PH ops license. To once and all be rid of this PH cross-border hirings issue.

Surely if it was a safety issue then they would demand that ford's currently licenced for 6 would be reduced to 5 with immediate effect, clearly this is not the case.

very unfair that someone goes to the expense to ensure that they have a vehicle that passes council requirements and get it passed. and then get told later that it somehow no longer meets the requirements is frankly BS.

maybe a phone call to the local paper is in order, they love this sort of council Vs taxi's story.

I wonder why they need guidlines if they think things are best decided at the local level?

And guidlines can just be ignored anyway - LAs can easily find out what other LAs are doing, but they clearly prefer to make their own rules, as the Galaxy issue demonstrates - it effectively justifies their existence.
