What is to say the private hire drivers aren't the same regarding the use of English language. No doubt there are many different race's licensed as a Private hire Driver as there are hackney carriage. I agree with a smart casual approach to uniform, open collar shirt, trousers, shoes with company Logo on.

But as for knowledge, looking at the Knowledge test guides, the hackney carriage one is more thorough. Apart from having all the bars, hotels, train stations etc listed in central Manchester for Hackney Carriage. One module is Routes from Manchester Airport. So your Taxi driver has more of an idea where he's going than toothless Albert in his 11' plate Arrow car with his tom tom!

Thats not the point is it, read my original message. Its not the price its the overall service that i have an issue with.

Your original post did mention that you didn't like to be overcharged, so price does come into it.
Stop beating about the bush and admit that you work for Arrow.

Theres a big difference between paying more and being ripped off.

Too many people on here posting stupid irrelevant replies is this the mentality of taxi drivers

I've a better suggestion, why don't you feck off.

Who cares what you think. Try using the Bus, its right up your street.

And learn to spell and punctuate.

This forum is nothing to do with the BNP

I'm well aware of that, thanks. I've been using it for much longer than you.

I was refering to your "camel jockey" comments.

If your real gripe is the way drivers dress, why not take that up with the airport authorities or the LA?

Quality service is far more than just a dress code BTW.
Real knowledge of where someone is going is quality.
Asking for postcodes shows a lack of quality. Postcodes are for parcels, not people.

How's the job with Arrow going?

Ive travelled with white anglo-saxon drivers who were sweaty, scruffy and had little command of thier mother tongue, and asian drivers who were quite the opposite, there may be a train of thought in the trade that it (the trade) has been ruined by the prolification of asian drivers, but we should be careful of who tries to influence the thoughts of the majority, look what happened in Germany after WW1, there may be many things wrong with this country but its still the best place in the world, dont let a few rabble rousers get everyone a bad name

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing

I think you should direct any complaints to the local council.

Who knows, but what he seems to have done is unite the nations taxi/PH trade.

A marvellous achievement indeed.

I regularly travel in to and from Manchester Airport. I am extremely pleased to hear that there will be a new firm of taxis operating from Manchester Airport (Arrow Cars) The Black Cab drivers from this airport that i Have used in the past dont seem to know where they are going , overcharge and cant even speak the english language, and as far as their dress code is concerned i can only describe this as a total embarrasment.

I hear that this new firm will be operating brand new vehicles and smartly dressed drivers (in uniforms). from 1st May.

I dont expect much from a taxi driver, just a normal person that can speak english, drive the right way, and not rip me off. Oh and preferably not wearing their pijamas and sandals, just a normal shirt , trousers and shoes would do.

I think once this new firm gets established they will be taking over totally from the Black Cabs, just like the seem to have done at Leeds Bradford and East Midlands Airport.

Most on TDO believe you are an Arrow Cars Stooge, but I will give you the 'benefit of the doubt' and presume you are not.

So, I will assume that you are a genuine punter that regularly uses licensed vehicle transport and by the sound of it you use these services very regularly indeed.

Tell me in a little detail, what you expect from a taxi or private hire driver, what you dislike about the way some drivers perform their duty and in particular what you dislike about Manchester Airport's Hackney Carriage drivers, giving examples where you can please.

Also, if as you say, you have in the past been 'ripped-off' by Manchester Airport cab driver, have you ever complained to Manchester's Licensing Enforcement Officer and if not, why not?

And finally, what do you believe are the most pressing failures, faults and malfunctions of these errant drivers that make your hirings and journeys so unpleasant and by the sound of it, infuriating?

These are not trick questions; if you answer them honestly and in some detail, members on TDO, who are mainly licensed vehicle drivers, may well stop, think and learn.

I know I would like to hear a customer's viewpoint, as that is who we all are supposed to serve; the public.

If you read my post on this site your questions will be answered.

In brief my main gripes are:

DRESSCODE
POOR KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE
OVERCHARGING, for example different drivers charge different amounts, on one occasion the driver wanted £45 in to manchester city centre, double what i normally pay, and he said "money up front mate"so i just tried to get in the cab behind and there was uproar and the two drivers just started hurling abuse at each other. On that occasion I ended up walking to the train station to get a train.

If the airport found out about this surely drivers that overcharge and hurl abuse on a taxi rank would be in trouble, surely the airport must have rules and regulations about behaviour etc
