Yesterday 12th, the cabins went up on each terminal at Manchester. The cabins are outside the terminal door, you have to pass each one before you get sight of the Taxi rank. The Airport officials finally admitted that the current taxi holding area (and cabins) is to be reclaimed. They promise another location, but, have no idea where yet. This meeting and admissision is, I believe, due to the report published on this site.

Where the taxis never in talks to have a cabin allocated for them?

I heard from the grape vine today that there was a trade meeting about the airport and that there had been no consultation with the hackney carriage trade about Arrow moving in.

I would have thought there should have been a tender process before the contract was awarded.

As for the hackney carriage waiting area being reclaimed, where will Arrow be parking there vehicles ? or is that why the hackney carriage holding area has been reclaimed !!!!

You may well be right; Hackney waiting area reclaimed so that it will become the PH waiting area.

Fellas it's all down to money.

With PH the airport will get a cut of each and every fare, with the taxi trade they wont.

Why don't the taxis organise themselves so they can have an equal opportunity with the private hire trade at getting these contracts? Surely the taxis can offer just as good a service as any private hire company can

It's coming, soon you will not be allowed near the terminal except for Arrow, then the parking charges will come in 10 minutes free then £££'s whether dropping off or picking up. Not sure what the parking charges are at Manchester at the minute but it will change to try and keep the rest out.

Drop off is free, except when they decide that it is to busy and they close the drop off and you have to use the car park. The charge in the carpark is £2.00 for 30 minutes.

To pick up at Manchester, using short stay car park WAS two pounds, but, we had a 2.5 % vat rise, so of course it has been raised to 2.20. Good job I am not good at "sums" or I might think we have been ripped off again.

The Taxi waiting area is being reclaimed to build upon. They have not found anywhere to put the hackneys yet. The implication must be that perhaps they will not be relocating the hackneys.

All things being equal the taxi trade can't compete on price. Level of service has nothing to do with it.

depends

a new mondeo is dearer to buy than a 15 year old Lti i thought

or are you saying all hacks are £40k and brand new?

anyway, according to you, a 10 year old TX-whatever will outlast my mondeo so ill have to buy 4 to outlive your one car

I landed at manchester airport last night and heard that the black cabs could possible be phased out over a period of time this probably coincides with the arrow car firm moving in i noticed that there seems to be some activity at the airport re arrow cars does anyone else have any news on this,
