If you read my post on this site your questions will be answered.

In brief my main gripes are:

DRESSCODE
POOR KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE
OVERCHARGING, for example different drivers charge different amounts, on one occasion the driver wanted £45 in to manchester city centre, double what i normally pay, and he said "money up front mate"so i just tried to get in the cab behind and there was uproar and the two drivers just started hurling abuse at each other. On that occasion I ended up walking to the train station to get a train.

If the airport found out about this surely drivers that overcharge and hurl abuse on a taxi rank would be in trouble, surely the airport must have rules and regulations about behaviour etc

i take it your self-employed, dont you set your own rates for work?.......

Well if its happening all the time, someone at manchester airport will end up pulling the plug on them.

Well if the squabbling between drivers over a fare, the demand for money up front and the blatant attempt at over-charging has happened to you, then it is bound to happen to many other passengers on a daily basis.

What p*sses off honest drivers that do the job properly is that punters like you don't go to the trouble of reporting these matters to the licensing department and in this case the airport authorities too.

Sorry guys but this guy (cwright) is giving everyone total bullsh1t....
I work at manchester airport and have worked here for a long time.
There are Marshalls at ALL terminals appointed by the airport who will intervene if a passenger is unhappy ...this happens INSTANTLY...in most cases...
Yes, there are lots of drivers of asian origin who work there but mostly these are BRITISH born....and most have been in private hire before coming to hackneys..and as somebody rightly pointed out there are ''knowledge'' tests that have to be passed by ALL drivers...
As a lot of people on here suspect this guy has something to do with Arrow cars.....
Well, here is a message from the hackney drivers at manchester airport.....
welcome to manchester airport.....
your stay here will be short and sweet but it will prove a very expensive venture one.....you will come here full of hope and with guns blazing....but you will leave with empty pockets and probably owing manchester airport loads of money and with your tail between your legs......why ?
because there have been 3 companies....all much bigger than you...that have come before and left.....so what makes you think that you will succeed ?
Arrow will need ''licensed'' drivers to drive their vehicles...who need to earn a living...which they will not...so will leave.......yes you can pay them ''wages'' but the question then is..where will the money come from to pay the wages ?....
Last but not least....cwright.....you complain about lack of knowledge ...with hackney drivers ?.....I would like you to show me many drivers in manchester ph with more knowledge than hackney drivers please....bet you wont find many...

Well there seems to be alot of negative vibes on here about working at manchester airport, i am in and out of this airport at very week and its allways busy. Its a major international airport there should be loads of business for all drivers all they need to to is get their act together and try and attract and retaibn the business, last time i got the train from the airport to city centre in my opinion it wasnt only quicker it was cheaper and more pleasant, even though i had luggage to carry.

I certainly will, il be observing what is going on at the airport over the next few weeks with interest, i certainly hope that the changes that are likely to take place will be for the better, i look forward to more choice and a better service allround which ever mode of transport i choose to use, last time i used the train and i would certainly go by train again particularly during rush hour as its alot quicker and cheaper.

Il post my observations on this site.
