I just wondered how cut throat it is in and around Edinburgh for the Taxi/PH trade? I had a 120 Mile round trip to the airport cancelled today..all because the Customer got offered a price of £60 for the same 120 mile run by an Edinburgh Taxi firm....and thats for a 6.40 am Pick up as well.

How in hells name can anyone make a living out of charging 50 pence a mile in this day and age!!!..it'd hardly cover the fuel and vehicle costs.

It's [edited by admin]. Don't get me wrong, everything is relative to your personal living situation. Depending on whether you have come from a background of at least some money, or your wife earns a good wage. You might still be earning a living.

Up and until, my licence was suspended, I was down a grand a month on average. It was not worth it. The futility of the job was driving me nuts. No one wanted to better their lot by taking the fight to the council or the Ph. They just kept moaning about how bad it was.

Feck that, jog on . . .

Market forces.

You don't like it, you can't compete, then get out.

But wait a minute you can't, can you? Because you've got a plate value the council gave you.

Without restriction, tumshies like you would have left the trade and we'd all be getting more work as a result.

Restriction protects the weak, and makes the strong weak.

WTF you on about !!...Im asking about edinburgh..I dont work the place nor own a plate. nor even like driving into the place much.

How come what evers discussed about the Edinburgh trade the threads Hijacked into to some form of twisted propaganda by the pro and anti plate brigade..

Fech me, all I wanted to know was basically "is 60pence per mile" the normal" in Edinburgh ?

Bugger it...the Scottish Section may as well be confined to the Hyperspace scrapyard for its own good....It ought to be renamed the "Propaganda and Spite section"

I'm Scottish and work in Scotland...but Im buggered if Im going to have to suffer the Verbals in the Scottish section...who needs it?

Spat the dummie out have you?

Another child.

Why don't you listen to the argument rather then your own pathetic pash.

We're cutting our throats and the council have us just where they want6 us.

Last night I did £130. That's £100 down on what used to be a normal Friday.

This week I'll be lucky to turn over £550. The owner still gets his £250. I'll have spent getting on for £100 on diesel. That leaves £200 for me.

The minimum wage looks like an unachievable dream for this "self employed" slave.

And this council won't give me the licence I need to improve my lot.

I'm one angry man.

I wonder if people like you have the capacity to learn anything? It's almost like you've been set to an idiot default setting at a very early age.

You think of that all by yourself? it's about the witties I've heard since "your an idiot"

Have I got the capacity to learn? Not sure! City and guilds levels 1-3 in vehicle mechanics! Further qualifications in electrical and mechanical engineering!

Should I ever take a funny turn and not think of how my petulant actions could get my license suspended I could always turn my hand back at that, or even train for a new career, instead of mooping around the house with a paint brush.

So you're a successful and skilled individual driving a taxi because you wanted a break from your chosen career path. Your skill base and the fact that you now drive a taxi proves only one thing. You never developed the capacity for critical thought and don't intend to.

I know mechanics, plumbers, electricians, and joiners, etc. And yes. They are handy skills to have but hardly what you would call, mind expanding occupations. I suppose that explains why so many of them are now driving taxis. However, I have no doubt that you Longshanks, are one of the clever ones.

You are obviously a real sharp cookie, that plays the game and never asks questions or challenges authority. Even when they have their cocks out and are [edited by admin] all over people like you. You think it's better to sit back and take it, and then justify their actions through an act of self-flagellation. God, you people are pathetic.

Now that really explains why you're driving a taxi, doesn't it? :-|

At least we've learned now that if we don't attend a council meeting when requested to do so we may have our license suspended

When I was in Edinburgh the other week for a couple of days the taxis and ph seemed to be quite mobile. Not sitting around and not many lights on the taxis I saw, so they're either all shopping or all booked.

Scotland generally, with the exception of Dundee seemed quite busy

With all those qualifications, I would have thought you would know how an average is worked out.

Aye, 15 cars on Lothian Road rank must be "quite busy".

Same with other ranks.

Let's hope you weren't driving. I hate to think of the carnage caused by myopic drivers like you.

Have to laff though. 5 minutes in the city and you have more knowledge that someone with 20 years working in it.

Guess we'll now get another 10 posts of drivel as you try to justify yourself.

BTW Why exactly have you made over 8000 posts on this forum?

You chattin sh*te again  I never said I had more knowledge than anybody else. If I had caused carnage I'm sure you'd have been one of the first on here to tell everybody what a bad driver you thought I was. I've posted what I've posted cos I can :-|
