If you got into a pool car for a shift and when the work had died down you had a root round the car and found drugs in a place where only the previous driver could have put them what would you do?

Now I'm not up on drugs or anything like that so I asked one of the other lads what he thought? He smelt them and said straightaway amphetamine.

The burning question is do I tell the owner of the company that one of his drivers is taking substances and left this in the car when he used it or go straight to the Police and Council?

They may have left in the vehicle by a punter and the driver put them where you found them for whatever reason he can come up with when you ask him. Personally I'd have a word with the other driver and advise him that if any more are found you'll have no alternative but to speak to the owner of the vehicle or whomever it is you think should be told

Agreed. I've often found suspicious items in the back of my cab and stuck them in the glovebox rather than bin them straight away just so I can show other drivers 'look what someones left in my cab !'

I would have thought that if stopped by the police and something iffy was on the rear floor of your cab that they'd accept it was dropped by a punter. If its in the glovebox then it gets a little more awkward, I'd hope they'd look at the character of the driver (previous for possesion) and whether he was likely to be a drug user/dealer or had just found it and was keeping it to later hand into the police. But if it was hidden in a place where only the driver would know and I was a copper I'd be very suspicious.

It'd make Taxiing a great job for druggies...they could always say "Sorry officer but I found that packet of Mixed herbs laying on the back seat"

No not the case. One of our drivers was taken to court when the police found drugs on the floor at the back of his vehicle. He was found not guilty but only after the stress of a court case

Of course. I didn't mean they wouldn't get arrested/charged just that after looking at the facts they wouldn't be found guilty.

The issue is that cabs are public vehicles accessible by multiple persons, anyone could leave drugs in the back - it's the likelyhood that the driver could be the offender that counts ! Would you expect a bus or train driver to be found guilty if drugs were found in their vehicle ? Unless they were in the drivers compartment.

I saw one of those cop shows where they raided a mans house and found drugs in a coat pocket. Because he'd had a party the night before they couldn't prove that the drugs were his or been left by one of the partygoers, or that he even knew about them. As there were no fingerprints or DNA on the drugs they had to let him off.

don't go to ther police it'll put you and your boss in a very tricky position I would have a quiet word with the boss and ask him to talk to the driver having found the package your prints are on the evidence !

I once went to the police when I had a punter ask me to stop and wait. When he got back in the car I could smell canabis. the police wanted to do me for taking the punter to buy the stuff.
