Hi all,

Seems likely that I'm going to have a change of job forced on me soon and I've been looking at what I would like to do. Did a bit of PH many years ago helping a friend out and enjoyed it so I am thinking of trying to get back to Taxis and if I take the descision I need to be sure as this will be as long term as it can, so any help or advice would be very gratefully received.

I've been reading as much as I can on this excellent site but need some help and advice in a few areas.
It's altogether possible that if one became available I would want to buy a plate and for the time being use it as a sole driver.
Is the deregulation issue as pressing now to the point that it would not be advisable to buy a plate in York?
What sort of price could I expect to pay for a plate?
Do plates come up for sale regularly?
I'm used to working long hours and would probably be looking at Tuesday-Thursday days, Fri,Sat and Sun nights, is there still the level of business available to make a reasonable living on a Hackney in York?

I'm sure I'll be very annoying with a lot more questions soon but I think I'll try these for now, would really appreciate any help that can be given.

Cheers, vault. :)

I would imagine if you come up with the cash there will be plenty of folks willing to part with their plates.

For York I would consider the implications of the Equalities Act, which might mean loads of plates being released for nothing.

The choice is yours.
