What's the money on Southampton delimiting within 18 months?

Absolute certainly, using the Equality Act as the reason.

Straight from the horses mouth. :-$

You are unbelievable! If council want a tool to keep an eye on "Iffy drivers" then let the council pay for it! Trouble is Council will abuse this just as they do all else

Just because I disagree with your flawed logic doesn't make me unbelievable, just you more than a tad naive. [-(

The safety features far out-way the snooping features, but IMO the cherry on the cake is keeping an eye on certain iffy drivers.

Are you suggesting the same council were wrong to expose Elyas Haidari back in 2009?

He would have got away with that if it wasn't for CCTV.

Perhaps the judge should have been shown the video of that.....then considered it could have been one of his relatives?

Yes, of course we need CCTV to nail scrota like this. Though I should like to think that in its absence evidence of passengers would have sufficed.

If he had more than a shilling in his meter he could have turned CCTV off, luckily, and only by luck in this case he did not.

A £200 CCTV system would have done the job here just as well. Why then within "compulsory" are we expected pay out £700 to "select" providers? Soon there will be a national shortage of brown envelopes.

I would expect sometimes if a driver were abused or attacked, then council as data handlers could say there was malfunction of camera, in much the same way police do with street cameras when they cannot be ar$ed. Is this acceptable?

As always seems the case, what initially seems of benefit to drivers is turned around by council to be his folly, to have drivers pay hefty for this
too only compounds the insult to our intelligence and breech's human rights to privacy when we are not actually working.

I say yes. yes. yes to CCTV, but without the dice loaded against the driver and everyone else's parasite around cashing in off their backs. If council want to adjust CCTV conditions to their whims, then let them pay for it!

I wonder if CCTV would have cleared this man earlier?

In clarification; my comment "Depends which side of the fence you sit and how high in case you fall " was response to Sussex's "Everything"

No problem.

But would CCTV have cleared the man in the article, from Southampton, falsely accused of raping a 19 year old student?

YES! CCTV is a "must have" for these exact situations. CCTV "may not" alone have cleared him but it would have swayed absolution strongly to his favour.

But objection is that councils want to remove all of driver choice and ensure they can spy during work and leisure time using the equipment we have paid for. To make us pay over the odds for equipment specifications only certain manufacturers supply.

This does seem a favourite trick of Council officers...we can only use garages that have tendered and been agreed, Medicals, we have to go to those that have tendered and been agreed even when our own GPs have superior knowledge of our health. Heaven forbid I should suggest remuneration may ever pass back, even in the form of a bottle of Whiskey at Christmas!

My Taxi, WHEN ITS NOT WORKING I consider my domain, my "Englishman's Castle" and all that...I do not relish the idea of having a licensing officer swoop out of the blue to seize my tape or SD card, the ones I have paid hard cash for and have my social and family life laid bare before a group of un-elected council officers for their combined merriment. Similarly I would not want them drooling over conversations made by my passengers...some of whom could be their very own senior managers.

Basically now, having agreed there is a desperate need for drivers CCTV we need to regulate the parasite opportunists attempting to jump on the bandwagon with their own agendas that are all far removed from driver and passenger safety.
