Unless you make a loss, you will be paying more VAT than you claim back.

Perhaps your turnover is so high you had to register.

1. Why will it be ME paying the VAT (Input minus output), Ive been given it by my customers, If i make a "loss" I get a refund off HMRC, like if i bought a £30K plus vat vito now?...(see note a)

2. Finally.....

BTW, the VAT on vehicles purchased i get back too

a) Id have bought it last week in the final week of my 2010/2011 tax year so i could claim a years tax allowances for just 1 weeks ownership....cat/skin/way...

So your prices are +VAT?
Advantage of having no meter, I suppose.

Quote:
Ive been given it by my customers

A taxi cannot add VAT to the metered fare.
If registered for VAT, the metered fare includes the VAT.
So in that respect, so has everyone else.
The difference is, we don't give a percentage of every fare to the VAT man.

Your customers will soon notice that they are paying you 20% more than they expected.
Unless most of your work is for VAT registered companies who can claim it back, I don't see the advantage.

Did you have to register or did you do it voluntarily?

Does your £1 plm include VAT or is the real cost £1.20 plm?

That works out at £3.85 an hour your £2 an hour under the miniumum wage.

I'm now thinking of buying a car that's already plated so I can work for a campany so instead of 40/60 all I have to do is pay rent like 60-100 a week
I'm getting offered a 53 passat 173k mileage mot 7/10 tax 18/12 plate 18/12 for 2200
I think that's worth it, the vehicle will expire end of 2013 so I got more than 2years as taxi.

Just a quick post to let users know how busy it's been up here in Newcastle.

I believe my accountant will think I'm taking the p!ss with the figures which are in my book at the moment.

Monday 11th April - £20 fuel, Left for work at 10.30pm. Got on rank at 10.45pm. Waited an hour with no taxis picking up. Left. Drove around to see if rest of town quiet. Yeah, confirmed....rest of town desperate. Ranked up elsewhere in town at 12 midnight. Read newspaper. Watched TV. Gazed outside at the midnight sky. Looked at driver behind me who was asleep at the wheel. Lad with pizza coming towards me....Oh, nearly picked up. Got to 2.50am and finally got my first job - one crisp five pound note...C'mon! Told the guy my about another crap night in Newcastle. Got a £2 tip. Decided to not bother going back for the "rush". Went home. Got back just after 3. Watched Babestation. Had a quick look on the net for new jobs. Went to bed pondering "whats the point".

This is common in Newcastle at the moment and Newcastle council need to help out the Hackney taxi trade as soon as possible.
Even a Friday night in becoming difficult to make a "blokes wage" at present.

What people see is how busy a Saturday night is in Newcastle and believe the other 6 days/nights are exactly the same. "you taxi drivers must be minted", is the normal crap people come out with or "well, the recession hasn't hit Newcastle yet" - unreal.

What is killing the hack trade is the continuous lack of balls by Newcastle council to do something about the "flimping" in the city centre. I don't see a Gateshead hack actually in Gateshead these days. With all the nightclubs closed on the Gateshead Quay, these guys have knowhere to go, so you can't blame them for driving a few hundred feet over a bridge to pick up, can you!!

Blue line, LA and now EastCoast Private Hire cars are "ranking up" in the town - absolute joke. This is saying one thing - if private hire lads are needed to pick up illegally, things are obviously not good with the private hire companies listed above. Again, you can't blame them if they believe they can get away with it - which they do time and time again. It's the council.

If anyone is thinking about getting into this game up here, they need their head examined!

Rant over

10:45 seems a bit late to go out? :?

Londons quiet this week like everywhere else, its the perfect storm in the taxi world, two back to back 4 day weekends. You'd be daft not to take 3 days leave in between.
The seaside towns taxi fleets are probably laughing at the moment. :?:

In light of the above I went out early (ish) today, starting at 3pm and working through until just shy of half twelve. I acheived the money I needed.

Why not do a 3pm to 3am?

You could have finished off by taking a cab load of bacon butties to the campers waiting for the wedding.
