As I'm new to the forum I thought I'd just say hi. I've been driving taxis for 3 years now and work in the Catterick Garrison and Richmond (North Yorks) area. It's quite a good area to work, you get very little trouble, infact I have only heard of one indecent of violence towards a driver in the 3 years I've been driving and you can get some decent runs out to the villages, especially on a Saturday night.

I've just started (last week) working for a new company (T4) as I was sacked from the last place (Frontline Taxis) due to..................wait for it....................not having my shirt tucked in! The night manager decided that he would inform one of the company owners that my shirt wasn't tucked and therefore, according to the owner, I wasn't in uniform... To be honest, getting the sack was probably a good thing as I'm now on a much better deal! There's alot of unrest within the old company, the way the owners speak to drivers, the way they speak about customers and the other taxi companies is totally unacceptable. Since I was sacked, 2 other drivers have left and joined T4 which must say something about the former company.

Anyway, that's enough of that...

Usually drivers put up with that sort of fascist behaviour from jumped up bosses if there is plenty of work on that firm, or no where else for drivers to go.

If you can earn elsewhere then you have had a result.

But two bob taxi operators are everywhere, and one of the craziest things is that some of them are voted in by the drivers themselves. ](*,)

Many happy memories and drunken nights in the (long demolished) Scorpion nightclub when I was in the army there. Is the military hospital still there, and the RAMC barracks on the Richmond/Catterick Road ?

Crikey! The Scorpian was quite a few years ago now...

The DKH is still a hospital, although I think it's actually a psychiatric unit now but don't quote me on that! Gaza/Jaffa barracks is the barracks I think you're referring to on the Catterick/Richmond Road where the medics were. The place has changed loads over the past few years what with the Garrison extending. Cambrai, Alma, and Bourlon are all joined together with the formation of Munster barracks now which is built on the old tankadrome site. There's still alot of building works scheduled for camp centre, there's already a new leisure centre built and a 74 room hotel is to be built on the sports field opposite the police station with a series of shops too.
