Walsall private hire driver caught without insurance for fourth time time by court "bring your toothbrush next time."
A private hire driver was banned from driving after illegally plying for fares in Birmingham and driving without insurance for the fourth time.
Anilkumar Shah, aged 55, of Water Reed Grove, Walsall, picked up two passengers at Birmingham New Street Station on December 3 unaware they were council officers.
The private hire driver, who was not licensed to pick up fares without a booking, agreed to ferry the men to the Hyatt Hotel.
In doing so he breached his licence and invalidated his insurance.
Appearing at Birmingham Magistrates Court, chair of the bench Mrs Brunton-Davies said driving with no insurance made the cabbie as bad a someone carrying a loaded gun.
“This is not the first time you’ve done it,” she said. “What would have happened if you’d had an accident?
“You’re just as bad as someone taking a loaded gun and pointing it at someone, you’re just as lethal.”
Shah, who was not represented in court, was fined £500, ordered to pay £200 costs, a £15 victim surcharge and banned for 18 months.
Asking the court if he was allowed to drive his car home he was told by the Chairman: “You can’t drive it home, you should not have driven here. You do not drive without insurance. You are banned from the road, if you break it, bring your toothbrush to court because you know where you will be going.”
