Can never work out why drivers like that just don't run their own motor.

25. The licence and badge shall be retained in the custody of the licensing authority duringnany period(s) of time when the licence-holder is not employed as a taxi driver. It shall be the responsibility of the licence-holder to notify the licensing authority of the name(s) of the operator(s) for whom he is driving for the time being and also of any change in the identity thereof. This information must be provided in the application form for the grant or renewal of the licence and thereafter within 7 days of any change as outlined above. If the driver ceases to be so employed, he shall be obliged to return the licence and badge to the licensing authority within 7 days, whereupon it shall be reissued upon notification of the licensing authority of his recommencing employment as a taxi driver."

That's interesting, and is a bit like the situation in Leeds we were discussing in another thread, except the operator here is the vehicle owner rather than the despatch offices in the Leeds scenario.

But the Dundee proposal would certainly be difficult to implement where I work, because the hired drivers tend to drive different vehicles often licensed to different plate holders.

And I wonder what they mean by "not employed as a taxi driver", because some drivers are very occasional - they may not work for several weeks, for example - does that mean they are not employed by the taxi owner?

(And that's also ignoring the fact that the hired driver is likely to be self-employed rather than employed anyway.)

ASounds like a direct line to the taxo office.

If the badge is out, then assessment is in. No excuses.

some strange stuff going on here, a driver turned up at teles tonight looking for a car, worked through 50s on a fixed deal for years, the op decided to suddenly call it a day (09)plate skoda ,you would think given the age of the car the op would have run it for a few more years
