Liverpool taxi driver foils armed raiders

A Liverpool taxi driver fought off two gunmen who tried to steal his car and his takings.

The taxi driver, who is in his late 20s, even managed to grab the handgun during the attempted raid in Tees Place, Kirkdale, on Wednesday evening.

The driver then took the weapon to a nearby police station to report the attack. The gun was being examined by forensic scientists.

Police praised the driver's bravery but warned against tackling armed robbers.

Dressed in black clothing, the offenders demanded he hand over his cash and his keys.

But the driver refused and during a struggle managed to wrench the self loading pistol from one of the pair who both ran off.

Warning against tackling armed raiders, a police spokesman said specialist officers were available around the clock to respond.

Of course if he kept them locked in his motor he would have been arrested himself for kidnapping.

Only if the motor moves.

If the motor doesn't move it's false imprisonment.

Well that's West Midlands Police' view on it.

Would the terms of citizens arrest be applicable here?

If the vehicle was moving the suspect would be locked in for their own safety.

I have to say I'm sharing an opinion my father had when I started in this job. I'm not sure if he was brave or stupid. Well done anyway :D
