The private hire firm who I work for are short of drivers, they are planning to use hackneys plated in a different area to do only pre booked private hire work in our manor is this legal or not?

Yes a hack can be used as PH anywhere in the UK

Isn't the office, car and driver supposed to be licensed by the same authority?

Only if they are all Private Hire.

That's what all the hoo-ha is about with the Berwick-upon-Tweed plates with one even working in Paignton in Devon on a PH system and no one can do anything about it!!

I would put it differently; legally not illegal, brought about by incompetent law draftsmen that cannot draft legislation correctly.

And they even have their own song!!!

2. The ‘localisation’ of British laws which previously applied to Hong Kong was a major task in the years before 1997.
3. I was LDD rep. on the Chambers Library Committee for several years.
4. The LDD was often involved in briefings for mainland Chinese lawyers before 1997.
