That driver must have gone through complete hell.

Just imagine if it had got to court, and his details were dragged through the press every day.

Nightmare, absolute nightmare.

I've witnessed it first hand what false accusations of rape can do to a man. I witnessed a decent hard working man go through 12 months of hell waiting for a trial at Crown Court after he was accused of raping a woman passenger.

He did exactly like the driver in the story did, he took her home knowing she had no money, she also repaid him by falsely accusing him of raping her.

I watched him go through 12 months of pure hell. The Judge was ready to send him down for 6 years when his defence team suddenly produced a document they'd been asking from the CPS, they'd been asking for this document on the woman to see if there had been any other incidents regarding this woman.

The Police and CPS were willing to let an innocent man go to jail for something he didn't do until his defence team got the document. This woman had made no fewer than 4 accusations of rape against Taxi drivers in the past in Derbyshire, all were proved to be lies.

The judge said I can't pass sentence on this man today because I'll be sending an innocent man to jail. He adjourned the case for 6 weeks.

When he went back to Crown Court he wasn't in the court room 20 minutes when the judge said to the jury I advise you to find this man not guilty. The jury did what the judge said and he was a free man.

2 years later his marriage failed, he was homeless, no job all because of a lying cow who got away free.

Why do they keep their identities secret? I want to know who I'm picking up and if they've made false accusations in the past I won't take them.

I think the problem with naming a 'victim' of rape is that if the accused is found innocent of the charge it doesn't necessarily mean it was a malicious complaint and if they 'name & shame' it could put off genuine people from coming forward. Of course if a person makes continuous claims of rape that turn out to be false then and only then should they be named or if it is apparent straight away like in this post. Personally I don't think either party should be named until a result is known. I also don't think a person should be named if the case fails because it's not proven because this again will put off people making genuine complaints for fear of being named.

But why do they put the drivers name in the paper before he's even been in front of a judge and jury?

I know. It's a terrible injustice but there seems to be nothing can be done to keep an accused persons name out of the press. My friend only recently had his name in the papers for the same thing. Found not guilty at trial. Having said that he was bloody stupid but that in itself does not justify what he has been through

I think that's the answer that needs to be addressed.

No name until conviction needs to be considered. The only pitfall is that sometimes seeing a name in the paper brings forward more victims.
