I am having some major issues. My previous experience on taxi insurance was through the previous taxi firm i work for, I was on their fleet insurance.

I have gone to set up my own and my old employers are refusing to write me a letter saying that i was on their fleet insurance, this is then or will force my insurance to go up by thousands, what can anyone advice me of.

i cant remember who their insurance was with, you just hire the car with them and the insurance was included, that is all we were told when we join the private hire company.

Not much use now, but when i used to hire a car through an office i always asked for a copy of the policy for my own records, along with the copy in the vehicle.

might be of benefit for folk in the future tho

I will be amazed if the insurer they use didn't/hasn't got your details logged as you being on the fleet insurance.

Otherwise they could have 1000s driving and only pay for 100.

If you don't get any joy contact the Insurance Ombudsman, or the Motor Insurance Bureau.

On my fleet policy I insure the vehicles not the drivers. I do not have to tell the insurance company who the drivers are. I have to keep a copy of the drivers drivers licence and his council badge. So I could have 100 cars and 1000 drivers and I would only pay for the 100 cars.

Hi Secure cars. I got your PM and did reply but for some reason it does not show in my sent PM's. I have sent it again but if not recd, to summarise, you are stuffed! having said that i have had an idea. Ask one of your former colleagues if they can find out who the fleet insurer and broker were. Then make an approach to them to see if the will help you. They may well be willing to appraoch underwriters explaining your difficulty and could probably confirm they knew your persoanal claims history.

Depending on where you work, TFP schemes could be your best bet for a new venture fleet. Also look out for an insurer called Octane Underwriting.

Good luck
