The first step to any problem is to realise there really is a problem...good luck!

If we all drove like that we would never get anywhere.

If you don't drive like that you won't pass your test.

Is it a normal driving test or just drive from A to B in a smooth manner

One would presume it is a test of driving ability and not how comfortable the ride was

It may have been worth the money to have a few lessons prior to the driving test because as Modred stated he'd failed due to bad habits that we pick up as we become overly confident on the road

Yes, full driving test, so no hand crossing when turning, no holding on the clutch, handbrake at junctions etc.

A couple of lessons would have been a good idea with hindsight as I forgot I ever used to do that when I first started driving, but now I know what the problems are I should be okay.

Why not go out and do the advance driver test and get a list of things that you need to correct.
The only thing they could fault with me was I had a habit of not griping the gear stick properly.
I was told there was no need to indicate if nothing was behind me like overtaking, and to forget the push and pull method as I was not driving a London bus, and that crossing the hands and letting the steering wheel slip back to the forward position was OK as long as it was under control

Nice idea Skippy, but the tester was good and told me exactly what he expected and there is no deviation from the original test.

He actually made a point of saying crossing the is a no-no and it did seem from other faults he gave me that it is right back to the book.

Rather sad really as I don't think some of it makes any real difference as long as you are in complete control of the car at all times and your driving is safe for everyone around you.

It was nice to note that the bad habits were the only things he picked me up on, my actual driving, maneuvers, etc were all fine.

So please tell what are your bad driving habits?

Smoking, leaving the toilet seat up, not replacing the roll when I've finished it, leaving the milk out, erm......

Oh, hold on, you probably mean driving, ignore the last sentence then.

Crossing hands when turning, hand too long on the gearstick, coasting (mostly when coming up to lights or a junction), NEVER using the handbrake at juctions or lights, riding the clutch (that's why I never use the handbrake).

Thyat's about it but it was enough for a fail.

Crossing hands when turning

I'm guilty of that sometimes

I think that's a comfort thing and not something I'm particularly guilty of when driving

coasting

Is that the same as cruising down hills to save fuel :?

I do use my handbrake sometimes but I don't ride the clutch I tend to leave it in neutral and hope it doesn't move

Hopefully my being aware of my bad habits should help me if I ever have to do one of these driving tests :D
