Taxi Driver Online

Had a run to Berwick rail today, after dropping got a coffee at driver price £1.00
Then went out and spoke to a couple of drivers ask the usual and they said very quiet as they would mind you they looked peed off.
Told them to start discounting to get more fares they both said that if the cab behind was discounting the punter would still have to go to the first cab as that the way they work it there.
Now the crunch, I said that I could take any cab I wanted then came the same reply, then I said it was against the law and if the second third or last cab refused to take me I could report that driver for the refusal.
Now only just understanding all things Englishire due to the rules stretching back to the dark ages was my comment correct???

Oh BTW no permits required to work there

So do I but, if the punter insists on using my cab and his destination is within Aberdeen City, I'd be in breach of my licence conditions to refuse him.

There are a few valid reasons for refusal (e.g. smelly, filthy, unfit due to drink or drugs, etc) but not wanting to use the car in front isn't one of them.

very rarely do we do that here unless customer wants a saloon/hackney first cab or no ride simple

unfortunatly taxi etiquette has gone right out the window most of the drivers who work Dundee train station still have some and out of town jobs usually get dearer the further you go up the rank

I point to the first car (making sure he sees) and tell the punter "it's your choice, in ye come". If asked by 1st car to explain myself (seldom happens, and usually only by newbies) I say "told them it was you, but they insisted on getting in mine". No hassle. (at least not so far)

They take the first taxi in London, end off.

The only exceptions for me would be if they needed the 6th seat, or the guys in front could'nt (or wouldn't) take cards.

If they want to complain, be my guess, I'm not going to loose any sleep over an ignorant c*** who won't listen to reason.

Its truly sad that any self respecting driver should allow themselves to be manipulated by mischievous punters with the malicious intent to wind up the rank and prey on the greed of their targeted individual....you should take the walk of shame!

not sure how things work in your manor, but through here there are 3 companies, all working off the ranks/radios. each of us have a % of people who refuse point blank to use any of the other 2. who am I, as a self respecting representative of my company, to deny them their choice?

any other (unknown to me) punter is a potential customer of my company. better that I oblige, than pointing them to the opposition, surely

BTW I do the walk of shame on any golf club that deigns to let me play it's course?

Company politics should have no place on a Hackney taxi rank...if you choose to undercut fellow drivers to get the fare then pride your self in that's another shilling in the bank; but precious little else except perhaps another wedge hammered into the trade.

In hindsight, if all your Taxi ranks are full of 3 companies radio cars then I would suggest that both drivers and council there have completely lost the plot of what purpose a taxi rank exists. Also made yourselves fair game to have all your PH chums join you there if (or should it now be when?) one tier licensing breaks the surface as it surely will in Ireland shortly.
I had thought I had heard all the lame excuses given to justify defecating on your peers and thieving one from the back. but new ones surface regularly, we are a very inventive group of bedfellows when needs must.
