Pink was after the old all green licence and was itself replaced with a pink and green licence.

I am not quite sure on this but I think you have to change to one by a certain date if you still have the old red book style one

I think you must have blinked and missed the 25-year period between the demise of the little red book and the advent of the photocard, which was filled by a green paper licence. :roll:

I've still got my green paper licence and can keep it for another 20-odd years until I'm 70 or unless I change address in the meantime. Or die.

Wasn't there a pink one before the green one?

As gusmac says it's the other way round.

I've been in my current address since they were issuing the green paper licences, which is why I've still got it.

Hence I'd forgotten about the pink ones, which I think were something to do with the EU.

Weren't the pink ones only issued to natives of Brighton?

:lol: :lol: :lol:

Would you like to see the DVLA issue the drivers badge

My licence is actually pink and green, I must have been thinking of the one before that when I thought it was only green. I've had it the best part of twenty years now.

So basically it was:

Little red book (to 1973?);

Green paper licence

Green and pink paper licence

Pink paper licence

Photocard licence (from 1998?).

And how many people in general don't even know that the photo-card licence expires after 10 years, as a new photo is required every decade?
