In the same way that some call licensed private hire scum and scabs, other idiots call de-restriction deregulation to scare-monger.

Then they say that de-regulation, when they mean de-restriction, will lead to rapists and the like getting licenses.

Thus the question arises if that deregulation (when they mean de-restriction) lead to rapists and the like being licensed, then two thirds of the country, and three thirds of London must fit that criteria.

Of course that's not true, but the scare-mongers don't let the truth get in the way of a good old blatant lie.

Like the 'de-regulated' London trade Nidge?

What dereguated London trade, London has never had any restriction on numbers

The term de-regulated wasn't meant to be taken literally, which is why I put it in inverted commas, but the reason I used the term is that it is often used by people (inaccurately) to describe areas without quantity controls.

Nidge said:

You and Suspect wanted De-regulation didn't you? Welcome to the real world as thay say, the world of no decent money, s**t hours and a trade full of [edited by admin].

I implied that this was therefore his view of the London trade, but of course he didn't answer the point.

I can assure you that those villains will recognize, will discover in appropriate time in the future how stupid they are and how they are pretending things which have never taken place and that delimitaiotn is the scourge of the licensed trade.

The correct termanology is Deregulation of Numbers. This is because the councils are a regulationary body.

The term derestriction was born from the keyboard of the owners of this site.

Do you make these things up or wot?

The term deregulation is inaccurate, because it means the removal of government controls, whereas in the scenario to which it is often applied this is not the case since there is still fare control and quality standards in place.

You are correct, the term 'deregulation of numbers' is accurate, but if you want to type that out everytime you want to describe that scenario then that's your outlook, but if you just use 'deregulation' then that's misleading.

I usually use de-limitation or derestriction to describe deregulation of numbers because it's less long winded than that phrase and more accurate than de-limitation.

You say the term derestriction was invented by the owners of this site, that's rubbish.

In 750 posts on TTF I used that term nil times - I usually used de-limitation.

The OFT and Govt seemed to favour the term 'derestriction' and since others seemed to copy this I did likewise, since if there's more consistency it saves wasting time on posts like this.

Deregulation isn't a good term, but in any case its exact meaning wasn't the point in issue, it was the connection between deregulation of numbers and this leading to a trade full of [edited by admin] etc!!

I said that this meant that Nidge thought the London trade was full of [edited by admin], but of course he then presumably realised that he was talking rot.

You have missed the point yet again.

Deregulation means deregulation. Now are you still with me? :?

De-limitation or de-restriction means, surprise surprise, de-limitation or de-restriction.

Only the thick, or the scare-mongers repeatedly mix the two.

Presumably that includes yourself Nidge - I think that's what's called self-abuse.

But then what you're on about is self-abuse as well

Look, you said that areas where there are no numerical restrictions were full of [edited by admin] and the like, so presumably you think that includes London?

And if not, why not?

I think by '[edited by admin]' you mean someone that's driving their own vehicle and not being forced to line your pockets Nidge.

Shame that

NO.

But I didn't use the term deregulation I used the term deregulation of numbers. I have consistantly used the term derestriction as I agree the WORD deregulation, without the words "of numbers" could be considered confusing.

Sorry TDO but you've just said that its wrong and that I made it up, so what is it.

I have a solution to the argument here. New terminology that will basically say what you both mean. It will have the added bonus of making the public aware of what it actually means when its raised locally.

My term, the term I have spent ages thinking about, and the term that I am justifiably proud of is (if TDO had a drum beat it should be used from this point )............More F**king Taxis!

regards

Captain cab

So how did you come to the conclusion that The term derestriction was born from the keyboard of the owners of this site.

Who said you used the term deregulation, it certainly wasn't me!

I thought I was agreeing with you that 'deregulation of numbers' was more accurate than 'deregulation', but that it was a bit long-winded, thus using alternative terminology, which you seem to agree on.

So basically I thought I was agreeing with you on the terminology, so why do you seem to think that I was accusing you of using misleading terminology :?

My only gripe with what you said was The term derestriction was born from the keyboard of the owners of this site.

I said the term deregulation was wrong but just stating a fact in the context of my explanation, not accusing you of anything.

Otherwise I thought I was agreeing with you :D
