Taxi fiend flees Scotland after subjecting woman to vicious sexual assault

July 24 2011

An illegal immigrant fled Scotland after raping a woman and attacking others while working as a taxi driver.

Ibrahim Selman went on the run to the Sudan days after holding a female passenger hostage, repeatedly raping her and leaving her for dead in the street.

Now one of his victims is demanding an investigation into how Selman managed to get the licence which allowed him to operate a private hire taxi in Edinburgh.

She said: "When I got into his taxi, he had a proper driver ID badge and official badges on the outside of his car."

"I thought I was safe because he'd been properly vetted."

"He drove off with me and subjected me to a horrific ordeal."

The 29 year-old Edinburgh woman claimed her life has been destroyed after getting into Selman's car outside a hotel near Princes Street in August 2008.

She had no idea his licence had actually been withdrawn seven months earlier.

Selman drove to an isolated area and attacked her for over an hour, leaving her semiconscious in the street. She said: "My life has been left in ruins. I used to hold down a £30,000-a-year job - now I rarely go out the door and suffer flashbacks and nightmares.

"When the authorities found out about his status, why weren't the official badges physically removed?"

The woman was devastated to learn Selman had fled to Sudan before being charged.

Her lawyer, Cameron Fyfe of Drummond Miller, said: "Selman was an illegal immigrant and should not have been able to work as a licensed taxi driver."

"For public safety reasons, we need to ascertain how on earth Selman was able to work when stringent checks are supposed to be in place."

Selman was issued the taxi licence by Edinburgh City Council in December 2006. His application was checked by police with no objection being made until 2007.

A council spokeswoman said: "When information became available with regard to this individual's immigration status, this was acted upon."

"He was no longer able to drive a hire car from January 30, 2008 onwards."

Police said before 2007, immigration status checks were not carried out during licence vetting.

An objection was only raised when Selman renewed his application in December that year.

Wrigglesworth was supposedly a man of Goid. He was a minister of the church. A corrupt bastar ddas a councillor though, who proved just how bad you had to be to be a councillor. And proof positive of a man who showed just how bad those who purport to represent organised religion can be. Which is probably why our churches are failing.

You can love your God, but some of the men who call you to worship him are just scumbags.

Jim Inch is the rule that proves there are no exceptions. He was universally despised in the council as an odious toad. He is everything that councils shouldn't be. We elect people to to keep scumbags like Inch under control. Our Stepford councillors failed to do even this, quickly becoming overawed by their new exalted position and their desperation to serve the system that has allowed them to join it. That's why councillors are scumbags. Because they put their own interests before decency.

Robert Millar is the poorest type of individual that exists. This is a man who could never survive outwith the nurture of a council protection. He is the most odious of individuals who only exists because his actions are protected by our public purse. Once again, we expect our elected officials to control the Millars of this world. They don't.

Keir is the scumbagwho only crawls out from under his stone because the public doesn't care. He is the epitome of everything our **** government' stands for. A man of limited intellect who puts himself before us.. And the system has delivered him to Scotland's Parliament. We only get the quality of government those who can be bothered to vote give us.

But he will be happy that he put wee stickers on the side of private hire while females are being raped. At least his bus company employers will be happy.

City of Edinburgh council is corrupt. These guys corrupted it.

Each and every one of them is responsible for this female coming to harm.

It doesn't get any more complicated than that.

I hope she sues their arses off.

Me? Now that they have come to press, I'm going to have a conversation with the lawyer.

I'm on the case.

This council needs to pay.

Sue Bruce has already had her chance to sort this bunch of p ricks out. She hasn't done so. She's failed. She is also responsible. So she's now in the frame as well.

The alternative is that more wee lassies will come to harm. Just so that f*ckwits like the [edited by admin] known as Dougie Brown can survive.

I'd prefer for women to be safe, than incompetents work their own vested interest.

BTW I'm not saying democracy can't work. I'm just saying thet what we have isn't, and doesn't.

Whereas there should be bottom up control, what is oppressing us is top down control.

When are the people of Edinburgh going to get the message? Don't use PHC. The PHC trade is full of illegal immigrants, who can never be vetted properly, as the authorities don't have access to third world countries criminal records. Enoch Powell saw all this coming in 1963 and he has been proved right.

This incident yes. But she's done nothing to sort the department out. It's still the same scumbags doing the same things.

There is no evidence that things are about to improve.

So she's already failed.

Unless of course you hold the view that what has happened in licensing over the last 10 years is acceptable.

That it's OK to put female safety second.

Jim, I wonder if you're convincing anyone that you're genuinely concerned about the safety of women or like me, "Yer just wantin' a Plate fir' nowt'". p.s. Do you still hear the "Voices" ?.

So which one will it be?

Was he using a false identity?

Were CEC like many other local authorities sh*t scared of refusing him a badge for fear of being called racist?

Why did they issue a license without knowing the full details of the applicant?

Did the applicant produce a certificate of good conduct from the government of Sudan? (which admittedly would be rather interesting considering the state of that godforsaken place).

Why can a chap like this get a license without seemingly providing all the information required.........when drivers across the country who have many years experience cannot get a license due to the CRB service being a little slower than desired?

CEC will be hopefully sh*tting themselves, someone is accountable for giving this scumbag a license.

I was curious if she was about at the time of the incident. I hold the view that somebody is at fault for allowing this person a licence, but, not Sue Bruce

I believe she was still working in Aberdeen at the time.

She may not be at fault for this person being issued with a badge, but it would be up to her to find out why it happened and make sure it doesn't happen again.
