Pair with police records apply for taxi driving licences

TWO wannabe taxi drivers will have their licensing applications heard this week.

Soner Ozer and Paul Grainger have asked Cheltenham council chiefs for permission to take fares in the borough. Both have police records, so councillors will have to assess the matters.

Mr Ozer, who wants a hackney carriage licence, has a previous conviction for being drunk and disorderly. In 2006, he called police after drinking, following a split from his long-term partner, and was cautioned.

A report to the licensing committee states: "Mr Ozer's caution, coupled with the fact that he was not entirely truthful during both interviews, has raised concerns over his integrity as a possible licence-holder and therefore his fitness to hold such a licence."

Mr Grainger has been convicted of using an unlicensed private hire vehicle.

Cheltenham Borough Council's licensing committee will consider the matter at 2.30pm on Friday.

I doubt it. When it comes to taxi and PH drivers, it would seem that everything is remembered which is why you have to disclose everything.

I agree, but with some relevance to the position.

I stole plums from my neighbours garden most summers, strangely enough I never felt compelled to tell the PCO about my major criminal past when I applied to go on the knowledge.
