I always find it worrying when someones views are rejected just because they do not agree with yours. Censorship is a valuable tool but dangerous when used too often or for the wrong reasons.
What makes you think this person was banned because of his views? Making a statement that might not be true would detract from the point you are trying to make.

What I have seen over the few months I have been 'tuned' in is the degeneration of healthy debate to a offensive slanging match between a small minority of members, with TDO joining in.
You have a keen eye! I don't suppose you wish to elaborate on who this small group of members are?

Accusations and statements cannot be made without evidence to substantiate them otherwise we would all be free to say anything we wanted without being checked. |
Again, who has been making unsubstantiated accusations? I think possibly, the reason why this individual was banned in the first place is because he and his partner in crime thought it more appropriate to concentrate on personalities, rather than on what was being debated.
I've never been one for censorship but reading between the lines it appears that a lot of the members on this site know each other from previous online forums. It would also appear that censorship was rife in those other forums. Far be it from me tell anyone how to conduct their forum but I would just add this.
Invading a person's private life for malicious reasons and without good cause has no place in a debating forum. Continually trying to disrupt and discredit this site for whatever reasons is an attack on the hard work, effort and future credibility of this site. I doubt very much that the time and effort which is put into this site by those that run it wish to see that credibility undermined by individuals who have an ulterior motive.
If grown-ups want to act like children then they should expect to be treated like children. In my opinion and from what I have seen recently the administration was correct in their actions. This site will know doubt go from strength to strength, it is bigger than any individual member, everyone has the choice of either growing with it and making it stronger, or taking their welcome contribution somewhere else.
Perhaps a warning shot has been fired across the bows of those who think persistent breaches of good etiquette will be tolerated. I hope these comments resonate in the right quarter.
Best wishes
