I am just not sure what the hell is going on in this town anymore.

Once more the council has decided to make it even more difficult for PH to actually give any customer service.

They have now decided to put camera's up all over the bus lane/gate points in town and any PH caught using them WILL be issued with a £60 fine.

Now I wouldn't have a problem with this under normal circumstances, but unless we break these rules, some area's of town are completely inaccessible and some of those that are will take an extra half mile or more when it is less than 100m away.

I know the council would love everyone to use the hacks but until they start to regulate the drivers a bit that is never going to happen. I get a lot of people in my car complaining that they have lived in the area for years and have been driven the longest way round by a driver who can't speak english and they will never take a hack again.

I don't wish to have a pop at the HC trade, I know most hacks are honest and work as hard as the rest of us, but the Nottingham ones seem to be an exception, probably due to the council handing out a licence to anyone.

My real issue is that we are all trying to provide the same service and all the council are doing is driving people away from the trade completely so they will just end up going out of town to shop.

Some do, some don't. What difference does it make?

It only makes a difference to the customer who has to pay an extra quid because they want to travel somewhere on the other side of a bus gate.

The signs on Mottingham's Bus lanes are clear enough to me.

And they DO NOT say NO PHV's, do they?

I don't know, but they likely say 'buses and taxis only', and in law a taxi means hackney carriage.

Nope, they say 'Taxi's'. Which PHV are apparently not (and it is that definition we are in 'discussion' over.
It is now so bad we actually have a handout in our firm in case people question the route we are forced to take.

As a PH you don't have to use the meter, there's loads of PH round our way who havent got a meter and run on fixed prices.

The signs say buses and wheelchair accessable taxis, which does not include my wheelchair accessable private hire.

They say that, but what they mean is bus or hack (no matter what sort it is).
You might be able to dispute a fine if you have a disabled badge and you were driving your own car, but I wouldn't like to give it a go.
Oh yeah, bikes are allowed as well but who honestly cares, they go where ever they feel like anyway, I mean, you would have to be insane to try and ticket a mountain bike for riding in a bus lane.

But then again..... :?
