I am not entirely sure it is correct, but i got told he was in his MX5 convertible, and for some reason< I dont know how he had a crash in it, me personally I wouldn't like to have a crash in one of them... as they dont seem to have much crash protection being a convertible.

If anyone does find out more info...please let us know

Alan

That is correct. He hit a crash barrier of some sort.

Does anybody know what caused him to hit a barrier of sorts, it's so strange that his vehicle seems to be the only one involved :?

Best not to get into that one just yet, that will be for the inquest.

RIP Alan

Indeed. There are all the usual possible causes which I'm sure we are all aware of. Many. I imagine the police will come up with exact cause at some point.

Searching for clues into fatal Howick car crash

POLICE are trying to piece together the final moments before a father-of-two was killed in a crash on a rural Northumberland road.

Michael Pollard, of Birtley, Gateshead, died on Sunday at around 12.50pm after the silver Mazda MX5 convertible he was driving veered off the road into a barrier on the B1339 near Howick.

Family members, who were believed to be travelling in two separate cars behind the 42-year-old, and two nurses, who drove past shortly after the accident, fought to try and save Mr Pollard. But he was pronounced dead at the scene following the arrival of the emergency services.

The road remained closed for up to six hours while investigations got under way into the cause of the crash and to allow for debris to be cleared from the scene.

Mr Pollard, who lives with partner of 24 years Angela Richardson and their two daughters Ashley, 18, and Emily, eight, was enjoying an afternoon coastal drive followed by two other cars containing his brother, brother-in-law and another friend when the tragedy struck.

His family have backed an appeal by police asking for anyone who might have seen something to come forward as it may help piece together the final moments of Mr Pollard’s life.

Mystery still surrounds how Mr Pollard’s car came to leave the road and officers are now urging people who were in the area at the time to get in touch. A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 12.50pm on Sunday a silver Mazda MX5 was driving northbound on the B1339 near to Howick, Alnwick, when – for reasons yet to be established – it left the road and collided with a roadside barrier.

“Police and paramedics attended and the driver, a 42-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Police closed a section of the road for around six hours to allow for collision investigation to take place.

“Motor patrol officers are appealing for anyone who may have been travelling in the area on Sunday and may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

“They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen three Mazda sports cars in the area prior to the collision to contact them.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police motor patrols team on 0345 604 3043 ext 69191.

I first met Mick through TDO.... How the years have flown,..... he was a taxi trade rep with an eagerness to learn, I wouldn't like to think of how many hours we spent talking on the phone, his passion was to represent his members to the best of his ability, to improve their standard of living, he gave generously of his time and bore the cost himself, as the years went on he learned how to be professional and win, he was a credit to his friends and the taxi trade in Gateshead....( he certainly knew how to wind JD up).. his family have my sincere condolences at their tragic loss... I am sure a lot more could be said and will be .. he had many Friends.....Trevor Jones..Sefton...RIP.. 8)
PS.
when I first met him he told me he didn't drink... by the end of the evening.. he did...

I'd heard things about MrT before I'd even met him  I wish my memory was good because I do remember Mick saying something that made us all laugh, quite unintentionally, about a book to do with training but for the life of me I can't remember what it was

This particular thread..... had Mick and myself and others in hysterics.... I have been a member of the North West Taxi Association for many years..... but when the battle over the 0FT began and the association's started to join together they first flew under the flag of the North West Taxi Association's...... (notice the 's) but poor old JD couldn't quite grasp the subtle difference that makes them different....

Who's this Angel person ......................... when did they join the debate.

At first I thought you were refering to an old member with the username Gateshead Angel but then I thought hang on a minute he's talking to me ................ OH sorry I see now my username GA is the initials of Gateshead Angel.

Hey, that is clever how you did that.

I already answered in Nidges 'my car broke down thread'.

Good turn out.....would have expected more from other areas of the country......but I'm glad I attended........Mick was a nice guy....Mick was my mate....Mick used to take the p*ss out of me.....and I used to take the p*ss out of him......Mick made me smile....... and I hope I did the same with him.

Mick followed MrT's advice......and I'm glad he did.
