I couple of years age there was an act that came in stating any Taxi or PH business with 4 or more Vehicles had to register as a Booking office.

Where would it be possible to view a full list of all Scottish Taxi/PH that have registered for a booking office License.

The act was to ensure that proper records be kept of all runs, drivers, clients etc...

I only ask as I reckon some companies around here are big enough to make them legally bound to register..but I dont think they have done so.

How would I find out who has and who hasn't registered?

Your 100% correct there are several, some are just using car to car with no record just a verbal one
SBC have never introduced it

we have 2 companies who transfer the phones to a mobile sun-thurs 12am-6am. I wonder if the n/s driver takes the time to record the details and adds it to the booking sheet/system when he has the oppotunity.

The Company that I worked for, who have Busses & Taxis, definitely keeps no records of Telephone Bookings. The Phones are switched through to one of the Drivers each evening and that is it.

Frequently, they would switch the phones through to me at about 4.45pm, without saying a word, and the first one would know that that had happened was when some irate mother rang up asking if her darling little Malky had left his iPhone on the School Bus!

By the way, even 6 year olds seem to have Smart Phones these days!

I thought this regulation was at Scottish Government Level and not Local Government level and that it would transcend the Local authorities remit.

It does.
SBC should be enforcing it, so should every Scottish council.

More to the point, I think you only need a base licence in Scotland if you are using premises to take bookings, thus you could conceviably operate several vehicles using mobile phones and radios or whatever from the car, but without needing a licence.

I don't think the London PH legislation allows that. And the age of the legislation pertaining to the rest of England means that mobile telephony wasn't envisaged when the act came into force, thus wasn't addressed in it. Although didn't someone say recently that some English LAs disallow PH ops taking calls in the cars?

Of course, neither in London nor the rest of England and Wales are taxis/HCs required to have any kind of specific licence to accept pre-bookings.

No not unless that driver takes a full record of each call and the other drivers/cars full details

In most cases it's the same licensing department you get your badge from.
