I know I'm going to regret asking this, but where are we in relation to the plates being issued in Edinburgh?

I know Halcrow found SUD, and said the council must issue x amount of plates.

The council invited drivers on the IPL to apply for those plates.

Drivers not on the IPL applied for those plates, got refused and some (maybe one) appealed to the courts.

That's where I have got confused, and would be grateful if someone could pass on the facts (as they understand them), and where we are at present, and any future plans/announcements.

Are you thinking about taking a punt?

Bit too far for me, but I do have future family in your manor.

It's just that I have lost the plot, so to speak.

One went to court with the support of 15 (I think) in a group action. With another ten or eleven sisted on the outcome.

The council lost the first case and subsequently pulled their appeal. Meetings are now being held with the view to unsist and grant all those concerned.

Yes, but I think that's the end of the IPL. The next time demand is identified. The council would have to consider all applications equally, which would mean no preference given to those on the IPL. That's not to say they won't try the same again, but I think it's unlikely. :-|

Question is. All this ducking and diving, dishonesty on the part of the council, where they've shown to be politically corrupt or just simply stupid? Is this how councils are supposed to behave.

I've waited 10 weeks for licence renewal. It appears that the cab office is at least three people short of being able to provide the service licence holders are entitled to.

#yet the council has spent considerable sums defending the indefensible.

Three quarters of the councils in our country don't behave like this.

So what makes Edinburgh different?

This is insidious political corruption at its worst.

It goes beyond a simple brown envelope stuffed with cash, as you'd see in a banana republic.

This is the abuse of powers, which give them a wide latitude to exploit, to prop up the councils and the councillors own interests.

This political corruption is manifestly grotesque and we need a public inquiry into how our cash is being spent and to ask the simple question, which the council refuses to answer, why do they even restrict licences in the first place?
