Medallion System - great idea!!

Councils sell plates when required.

Roll it out across the UK!!

Then we won't have the knobs in the trade, pretendiong to be what they ain't.

Only one proviso; one man, one plate, owner driver & one driver only if he choses to double shift the cab!!

Bring it on tomorrow!!

So only the council can sell plates? If a guy hangs up his spurs the plate goes back to the council, is that what you are saying?

So is every qualified driver allowed a free plate to level the playing field before the council starts selling plates. There are those who never paid a bolt for a plate you know. And there are those who have been a driver for a very long time. They must be entitled to a free plate to start things off.

Don't be silly, Skull. He's got his plate.
Now he wants to keep the rest out. One way or another.

The fact that buying and selling plates is illegal under Scottish law means not a jot.

As the council would be handing over ownership of licence plates. Everyone would need to be given the chance of a free plate to start things off. You couldn't expect those already holding a plate to benefit as the sale of licence plates up until this point is illegal anyway. The level playing field would be every qualified driver who wants a plate gets one. Problem solved.
Seems fair enough to me Brummie.=D> =D> =D> =D>

You're getting confused with the transfer of a licensed vehicle, which is allowed under English law.

So you would compensate some for their illegal trade in council property but not others :?

No confusion here. Neither is allowed under Scots law.

We are in the Scottish section

The Councils DON'T SELL licences they Lease a Licence  The Medallion system i'm proposing is the same  They just increase the NEW LICENCE FEE GRANTED to the current market value of licences being traded between willing traders and do so by keeping the trade as it is at the moment, SUD's would still have to prove demand, the council would bring in a TRANSFER TAX of say 5% for individual transfers and say 12 1/2% for Multi licence transfers/corporate transfers.

The leasing system for Pubs is the same, depending on location the lease's value is based on the maket value for that area/business etc

Give us an alternative to this way and the status quo and we can take a look, if it's a fairer way then good

De-restriction will never be adopted so that's also out of the debate, too late

An alternative please :?:
