Let's just say, you have a driver that is being restricted from the tools of his trade by the simple fact that he has no money, do you think he should simply go away.

Don't be stupid, a driver is not "restricted from the tools of his trade" because he has no money.

A restriction is imposed on someone by someone. The driver is simply skint.

And to think they let you go to council meetings. #-o

you choose to ignore the fact that some drivers cannot afford to purchase a vehicle or pay insurance, you do not clarify how they are supposed to live, or do they not exist in your world.

Owned by whom? Are you suggesting drivers are slaves because slavery has been outlawed since 1833

It's a figure of speech.

A self-employed driver finds himself in a swelling labour pool of drivers with restricted access to the tools of their trade. They compete against each other for a limited number of shifts. The owners simply pick and choose their drivers while hiking up rentals to an artificially high level in the process. I don't think anyone could claim that rentals reflect earnings, especially now. Drivers are therefore turned into commodities to be traded between owners in the job market. In effect, becoming the property of vested interests, controlling their access to work, depending on how much they are prepared to pay.

I would say that makes them property of sorts. :-|

Why would anybody go into a trade that won't earn them enough money and pay for the privilige of doing so. If it's not good financial reward for hours worked why do it :? I don't think it makes them 'owned'

Try reading it again:

If you can't work it out, then there is no hope for you and don't be going up to any council meetings claiming to represent people.

Perhaps he doesn't understand the question or his views are blinkered because he believes the only restriction within the trade is caused by the restriction of licenses

Trevor, I've answered the question it's just that you're an idiot.

The driver isn't placing a restriction on himself. He is simply skint. It's not a restriction in the context of consciously denying himself access to the tools of his trade. He didn't think, "oh let me see. I wish to place a restriction on myself, so I can't buy the tools of my trade."

You are being ridiculous.

It's of no surprise to me. You don't understand that drivers do not place restrictions on themselves to deny themselves access to the tools of their trade. It's people like you who do that. #-o

Trevor, a driver isn't being "restricted from the tools of his trade by the simple fact that he has no money." Having no money is not a restriction imposed on him by a third party, he is simply skint.

"what do you do with drivers" I haven't a fecking clue, you and toots are nut jobs. Maybe he can work in MacDonald's until he has the money to rent a taxi at a ridiculous rate.

What a pair of screw-balls.

Without a shadow of a doubt, no sane person would do drive a taxi by choice, especially now.

A point that I made to some drivers who "work" for some companys around here. They admit to earning below the minimum wage and they are happy to continue to do so.
