New Update, it would appear things are moving, the GMB rep, and new Chairman of the cab Committee, Sean Kenny, yesterday secured £2500 to start the ball rolling. £500 was donated by the retiring former rep, Pat Connor.

Hopefully that should just about be enough to get a decent brief to tell them to stop wasting their money. #-o

Fighting Fund Update

I am pleased to announce that we have managed to get a contribution of £2000 from the National Taxi Trades Group (NTTG) and Pat Connor has very generously contributed £500 to kick off the fund.

We have purchased receipt pads with triplicate copies (one each for; payee, collector and information collator)

We will need the following volunteers; collectors, an information collator, a banker and a scrutiny committee of five persons.

The money will go into the bank account left over from the Checker Cars/AirportcarZ fight. This account requires two signatures on each cheque currently they are George Simms (secretary of Manchester Cab Committee) and Mohamed Ashraf (former Chairman ATA). Meetings of the general trade will be held in the Feeder Park on Tuesday 13th September at 11am and 7:30pm to answer any further questions

Sean Kenny
Chairman MCC

Footnote from MR Blackcabs:

The contribution of £500, Pat has recently made to the Cab Committee fighting fund is remarkable.

Pat has done his “porridge” on the job, he is probably thinking of retiring. It would be natural for anybody to think of themselves at such a time, however Pat does not think like that.

Pat's gesture has prompted MR Blackcab to make a contribution to the fund also. It should be stressed that MR have no financial interest in work at the Airport, MR are Manchester’s leading CREDIT cab company. However we are fully aware of the implications to the whole trade if this matter is not resolved.

The GMB has worked continually of this matter and raised considerable funding, thanks to the Trojan efforts of Sean Kenny. One has to wonder what the other ‘U’nions and Associations are doing.?

Returning to the matter of Pat, I know you are fond of my quotations (sic).
I think the following says it all;

“A machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men, no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man”.

Elbert Hubbard (1865-1915)

Pat Connor is an extraordinary man.

How does the saying go about fools and money being easily parted?

You may be right, or may be wrong Mr Grandad, only time will tell.

But I would love to see exactly what is being fought for here, and the full legal basis of this fight, before I comment further.

But one thing I will say is this is going to cost a fortune, and the £2,500 (plus an anon donation) will cover next to none of the challenge(s).

It's very disturbing, to see that the N T T G has made a £2,000 contribution, the illegality of this contribution will certainly have to be checked. the original association's contributed to fight derestriction of numbers. and the money collected was supposed to be held in trust until this issue arose again Nationally this is not a national issue.

The press release, which I admit to posting, does not reflect what is actually going to take place in Court. If it gets THERE.

There are five points of Law, which having been looked at by "Councel" ,appear to have been broken.

I cannot post more at the monent, but I will update when I am able.

Still looks like a lot of people who are going to waste a lot of money to a solicitor who hasnt told them about a certain case. (I'd tell you but you'd have to be an NTA member! )

If you are referring to Scampion you need to read up on a certain piece of legislation

Made a few phone calls today... . it seems the committee in charge of the NTTG have given themselves the money to fight a local issue, and yet they were entrusted to hold the money donated by many associations across the North West for the purpose of national issues.... :?: I wonder why the GMB are not funding the legal battle :?:And the same people are going to be in charge of the money collected in for the Manchester cab committee....

Strange......I never thought the word 'contribution' and the word 'loan' meant the same thing.

It is not how much it costs to win a case like this.... it's how much it costs if you lose, personally, I would form a limited company, and that company would be taking the council to court, good luck to them anyway.
