I think you are wrong, the union want free access on land that is kept by public subscription i.e adopted land.

Glasgow Airport is not kept by public subsctription nor adopted land but wholy owned by a public company.

dont think you will understand all that but otheres will.

Fully endorsed by the local branch Sussex, overlooked by the T&G and wrongly so.

So when you get your HC plate, your first fight will be against the permits and their un-fairness?

I dont know if im being a little radical by stating the obvious, but surely hackney carriages, with the benefits of immediate hire and invariably wheelchair accessibility are to all intents and purposes complimenting the services offered by airports, rail stations and indeed bus services.

If this is the case, then should WE pay to offer them a decent service?

The problem is the trade is too fickle to unite and fight such charges or restrictive practises. Partly because some in the trade aren't much better than the train and airport companies.

In theory it shouldn't take much for the trade to sort out all this permit lark, but it will never happen because we are all our worst enemy.

Spot on there Sussex, what is the criteria for the LA to provide a rank on the public highway. I.E. if drivers didn't pay these fees and "formed" a rank at the nearest public road what would happen??

Just thought I'd give some info

Renfrewshire Council has a number limit of 212 plates consisting of 3 zones, Paisley, Johnstone and Erskine. The B.A.A. has issued 177 permits which allow operation from the airport rank. Operators can use the rank no matter what zone their license is from.

The last I heard the Paisley zone/Airport permit licenses go for £40-50,000 & Renfrewshire Council allows transfers; even to estates in the event of license holder dying.

Vehicles have to be wheelchair accessable, (TX, Eurotaxi, Mercs, etc.) & can be no older than 8 years & must be white in colour with no advertising except small LCD screens on the back of the front headrests.

Although the number limit is 212 there are in fact another 4 on the road, 212A, B, C & D which had to be issued when the council never dealt with the 4 applications within the 6 months allowed (the applications were lost in a file somewhere)

When those applications passed the 6 month deadline allowed they were as the law puts it 'deemed to have been granted' & those guys in effect had licenses without any conditions attached which ment they covered their vehicles with adverts, i.e. they could do what they wanted for the year of their license.

After the deemed license expired it took an appeal to the Court of Session (Scotland's highest court) before the council agreed to renew their licenses
