My son has very recently moved to Dubai, to take up a job with Emirates Airline.
He got out of a taxi over there at his hotel paid the driver, who promptly drove off with his flight bag with all his flight manuals, keys, money, passport, laptop, all his i.d. his whole life really, in the boot.
He checked the reg and plate number, and the security guy had logged the driver i.d. too.
He called the cab company who wouldn't help for "security" reasons, so the hotel manager called the police, who arrived within ten minutes.
They contacted the cab company, who ordered them to order the driver to return to the hotel. When he came back, he insisted there was nothing in the boot, but when he opened it, he nearly fainted when he saw my sons flight bag.
Steve checked his bag, told the cops nothing missing, thanks for your help, but they then cuffed the driver, and started to shove him, crying in the back of the cop car. He asked the cops what they were going to do with him, and they told him he would be deported after some cell time! Steve told them he thought it was a genuine mistake, and he did not want to make a complaint against the driver, and would they please let him go? which they then decided to do.
So double check for lost property if you drive in Dubai, the moral of this tale!
