On the one hand, we have Drivers complaining that they cannot make a living out of Taxi Driving

and on the other hand, we see Drivers cutting their own throat by quoting below the running cost of the vehicle.

Crazy, the lot of you.

Dusty: My concept of a Discount is to offer 10% off the Meter Price, not 30 or 40% off. That would be my Profit Margin away and running at Cost or Below.

I did an airport run at 3am on Saturday morning. Took me 1.5 hours to get there, 1 hour of waiting around, then another 1.5 hours back, arriving home at approx. 5am. 220 mile round trip, in the early hours, and the fair was £100 (Private hire, set rate by base)

On the plus side, it was less hassle that picking up the usual saturday night undesirables and they did tip me an extra £20!

1.5 + 1 + 1.5 = 4 hours total?

Left at 3am back at 5am

I meant that the pick up was for 3am on Saturday. I left at around 1am. I was gone for around 5 hours!

That's better, I've met some fast drivers in my time but none can time travel as well

Esso got £35 of it to start with @ 40 mpg, 5.5 gallons @ £6.35p per gallon

I think what Grandad is getting at here is you had a 300 mile round trip for £50 clear profit, £10 ph on that job.

And until this thing that the public thinks you are it's mate and owes it a favour stops, along with greedy office owners who basically charge for Steak and supply Gristle nothing will change, you'll wear your car out, and those who cast off £3k to go to some exotic location without a care stutter when having to dish your daily corn to you etc.

I work on a 50/50 basis at the moment, driving someone else's car as I'm to young to get competitive insurance quotes which makes buying my own vehicle unviable.

It cost just over £30 in fuel, it was purely motorway all the way and the car was doing 44mpg ish accordinging to the computer.

This means that I was left with £70, split two ways, £35. For 5 hours - £7 p/h.

Not great, considering the unsociable hours worked, but it beats claiming JSA.

Fairplay to you mate, if it's any consolation I don't do any better, but at least I don't go far to be this skint, anyway top marks for effort.

Many a 50/50 Contract have to pay the Fuel themselves
