You need to tell them it's for hire and reward Skip, I've defended you before, but right now you look like the guy who drives a 55 mpg 300C.

You got the first part right 55mpg but I will stick with my 105 bhp :D

Westminster insurance may be cheap BUT be careful if you have an accident and they write your car off you lose your policy and no claims even if it wasn't your fault !!!!!!

I got caught out by that won't ever touch them again

Every policy will do that UNTIL and UNLESS the claim is settled with the third party's insurance company.

Have you bothered to follow the claim's progress via Westminster?

If they HAVE recovered their outlay, then your NCB will have been re-instated with them back to the date of the accident, which in turn is then transferable to your new insurer and you are entitled to refunds of any premiums overpaid because of incorrect NCB being used at the time the premium or premiums were paid, due to the unresolved claim.

Claims can take a year or two or more to settle, but if they are settled in your favour you are entitled to your NCB being reinstated back to the day of the accident.

However, if Westminster never recovered their outlay because the third party were not insured or the claim was disputed or whatever, then the above scenario does not apply and you will lose your NCB.

Westminster have always paid out down here, and are generally the cheapest. But I still dislike them.

For my last quote they raised my excess and of course premium, so I went elsewhere. :D

On the subject of Westminster, I am sure everyone knows they are now owned by Tradex. Tradex was set up in 1995 to mainly do motor trade insurance but they will also quote for pretty much anything that no one else will, at a price. As brokers we deal with Tradex but they do not allow us to access their "Westminster" labled policy. We do tend to view them as an insurer of last resort! However I believe the cover is the same. I think the main strength of westminster is their local agent if you are lucky enough to have a good one. If not they will be a nightmare to deal with.

Always found Westminster easy to deal with as they have a local office here in Glasgow which is run by two ex Glasgow owner/drivers. My excess is £400 which I don't class as being excessive. Have had claims in the past which were dealt with quickly and they even got my loss of earnings and excess back too. No doubt as with all companies people will have had bad dealings, but I can only speak from personal experience. BTW before Tradex took over you had to pay extra for glass cover (£10/month) which I thought was crap but that's now included as standard. I'll stick with them for now probably until if and when they do the dirty on me.

I used to be registered broker with The IBRC, now the Institute of Insurance Brokers and at one stage was contemplating doing insurance exams.

I was a broker for many years, mainly to the cab trade.

Do you have any vacancies or openings?

And around that time one of the then directors at Westminster, whose initials are NW, moved to Liverpool Victoria, hence there expansion into the hire and reward market.

well now....

i had a bump, truck changes lanes as i passed him, he clips my rear N/S wheel arch

hes not accepting liability, neither am i

(he claims to have a witness, driver had a passenger, which im told cant be his witness then?)

i had a price of £1420 inc vat to repair

my excess is £550

but today a bodyshop quoted £350 (cash) to fix it (without cutting out the whole rear 1/4 panel)

will i lose my no claims discount (was 3 years last renewal) if i dont involve my insurers to pay for repair?

You probably know he's been followed by several other key people too.

I'd offer to do a job swap with you but Brumm is a bit too far from the coast for my taste.

It is a no claims bonus, so as long as your insurers don't cough up anything you should be OK. However bear in mind that if they have recorded an incident, they may keep the file open for six months in case the TP tries to claim. Word of warning, if you reported the incident to your insurance co, chances are they will have recorded it on the Claims and Underwriting Exchange database.

If you change insurance cos or renew ANY motor insurance and you fail to disclose the incident, even if not claimed for in the end, you could be considered as being guilty of "non disclosure". Everyone has a "duty of disclosure" and they are interested in any incident!
