in one town round here we have now 40 Hackneys working for P/hire offices, from a nother town oh joy of joys, with nothing that can be done says council officers.

they have even door stickers on for the p/hire office wounder whether they will ply for hire. just read the lord justice munby and Mr justice langstaff july 2010.

Not all of them are that clever one round here decided to dual plate his vehicle Hackney for our district and PH for Peterborough (I think his name was Muhammed Simpson :lol: )

Well result was he had his Hackney plate taken off him now if he'd just plated Hackney here with appropriate insurance he could have still worked PH in Peterborough !

Here, in Ayr, it is commonplace for Hackneys to be signed into a System, as well as trading the Ranks.

As it is here but they are on systems within their licensed area, I don't think the ones Charles is referring to are. There's nothing stopping them tho

To the best of my knowledge, we are allowed to take Telephone Bookings for pickups from outside our area but we are not allowed to make unbooked pickups (I believe the expression is to "Ply for Trade") outside our area.

What we need is one licensing authority taking another licensing authority to court [the second LA having issued a HCVL that is working in a licensing authority other than his home LA], quoting the Berwick case judge's directive to licensing authorities on this matter.

I believe the instigating LA would win the case.

If they did case law would be established, no need for new legislation.

Law Commission redundant!!

That's all well and good but if that happens you risk the taxi trade being unable to pick up passengers that booked them even tho they are outside their area e.g from an airport for a return journey home. Would such a ruling apply to ph because if it didn't then the hands of the taxi driver would be tied further but not so ph

Basically I can't see the issue with a man phoning from Doncaster for a Sheffield car myself, the only time this is a problem is if the Sheffield car is in Doncaster and someone walks up and says....are you free, and that is for both a PH and a Hack because neither are allowed to trade there unless a phone booking was made first.



And if as I suspect the fares are different and people are cab smuggling to get get the cheaper fare then only a new fair all for one fare scale should be introduced, Billy Beanrunner needs to be stopped from spoiling Frank Faircosts business.

Will the I's raise their hands.

You cannot dictate what people charge for their services just cos you don't like it. That is like Marks & Spencer complaining about Primark and saying it's too cheap.

True, but when it's neighbours and one is unrealistically pricing to knock the other one out, it's understandable why folks are moaning about X boarder hiring.

Or go forwards and wonder why there are no firms or cars in one city, and that cities population moaning because all of a sudden the prices shot up and they have to wait for a cab to come from another area.

Basically what I'm saying is a bus is a bus and a cab is a cab, the bus holds 100 the cab hold 4, the cab is for people who don't want to ride on the bus for whatever reason, so why charge like a bus if you are a cab, there needs to be a standard fair pricing for both drivers and punters, and as I said recently to you, £2.80 isn't worth a turn of the key.

This is where it's gone I'm afraid, people that don't drive, i.e firm owners have lost it regarding pricing, where you have been this week, if I offered you £50 for a one way trip to Heathrow what would you say? meter says £140, Heathrow is basically 130 miles round trip, so you'd make not accounting for wear and insurance etc 41p pm working on £6.38pg @ 45mpg = £18.50 fuel alone, and drivers ruck over who gets them, utter madness, I doubt even the bean counters who work out the overalls of car cost could make any profit from that, remember, those that own and don't drive, don't care, as long as the mugs will do it they will continue to keep it unrealistic.

Sometimes people do things because they have to not because they want to. I don't agree with super low fares either but until these people stand up for themselves there really isn't a lot that can be done for them

It would not affect what you have written!!

I'm talking about HC only, working as per the Berwick case only!!

As I understand it the Berwick case was about HC being licenced in one area but prodomintly working another area. Whilst the suggestion you have made (BC) may fix the Berwick problem I still believe it will prevent or at least cause confusion still for HC that are legally picking up in other areas. I believe a more simple solution would be to prevent HC drivers acting as PH drivers in any other area than the area in which their HC licence was issued.

So no returns from airports or stations if they are outside your LA and no picking up from outside your LA to come back into your LA. I think that would be a non starter.
