The Social Work Contract has now been put out to tender.

For the first time streetcars have an opportunity to access work from the Council's Social Work Contract.

Here's the deal.

1. Receiving equipment will be installed free of charge.

2. No radio dues will be charged.

3. There will be no call out fee applied.

4. No commission fee will be charged for administration.

5. The normal discount given to the Council will not be deducted.

6. Drivers will get the full, undiscounted price for the job.

7. Any enhanced disclosure required will be funded by the contracted supplier.

8. All contract amounts payable will be paid directly into driver's bank accounts.

Streetcars have long been excluded from public contracts, they being the exclusive preserve of the three taxi companies. There is now no reason why they should be. Everyone now has the opportunity to become involved and provide a service to something they fund through their public taxes.

I know a few street cars who have been doing this type of work for years.

One guy I know well, has been doing one particular job for 10 years!

How are they going to give competitive quotes if they don't offer some level of discount

But I can assure you that the work will be tendered for competitively.

The current discount level is known. so let's see.

I didn't expect a reasonable answer. If it's going to be competitive it's going to discounted albeit the level of the discount will be that of the driver and not a company decision.

Traditionally, radio companies have bought their work through an increase in radio dues. Street cars have never really been in the equation apart from maybe school contracts. Now there's an added dimension. Companies that can't afford to put up radio dues to buy work and hundreds of dedicated street cars that can afford to do the work for less. However, you want to look at it. The squeeze is on the radio companies paying more for less, just to maintain the contract. Now what's to stop street cars competing directly for other major contracts?

They will all have to get full disclosure Scotland of course(even though I CAN'T see why as they are already vetted)and be available for the contract at hours most street cabs don't work.

Well I Don't see many at all Ali between 4-7am on a sat and sunday morning not that I blame them of course.

don't see how a free radio set with no charges whatsoever putting many guys off.
as opposed to 6k joining fee £400>£500 per month radio dues and being under the cosh of some retarded [edited by admin].
