Focus on the 40 percent that are owned by the individual, they have to drive the cab ffs. The market in Edinburgh is around 90percent owned by individuals and most do drive their cabs. The Edinburgh market will never reach the value of New york but its fair to say that 100k for the whole package is good value, a couple of years ago this figure was within grasp, 57k for a plate, 30k for a new taxi and 6 k for a position, so their is no fantasy in valueing the product at 100 k. I'm about protecting the trade for the individual, the current market value of a licence is a bargain and trust me if the council do issue another 20 they will be the last as regulation will be tightened so as the current scenario will never happen again.
Well Reggie you can thank the guys that took the cooncil to court then, because as you say
'Regulation will be tightened so as the current scenario will never happen again' if your predictions become reality then the values could well go up! What puzzles me though, why all the song and dance about people taking the cooncil to court in the first place? The guys that won their case were totally vindicated as the cooncil were wrong in granting licences from an informal list before legitimate applications as was proved by the Judgement. On council court cases(Wait till the Statutory Notices hit court, that will be fun and games)
Cake and eat it springs to mind with you Reggie, whats another 20 plates when the value can shoot up to the 57K as you quote? Whats with calling these guys Carpetbaggers when the trade will benefit? with these thoughts in mind why the need for a Medallion System if it is going your way? What else do you want, why dont you move to have minimum packages set in place for example TX2 with position min 70K, TX4/Merc/Peugeot with position min 90k, TX2 street car 60K you know the script I am sure you could work something out in fact why dont you take overall control and set yourself up as a Taxi Broker you might earn plenty from the amount of guys banging down your door for a piece of the action!
