as already mentioned the cpap / apap machine does not use oxygen its just air it blows up your nose which in turn keeps your airway passage open which enables you to get a goodnights sleep as your airway is not collapsing causing apneas ,it is also a myth that only overweight people suffer with sleep apnea anybody can suffer from it ,one of the first signs is very loud snoring :shock: ,if you are tired in the day for no reason or can fall asleep while idle at the drop of a hat all the signs are there ,usually while driving around town in a busy enviroment you are fine but its when you hit the high rd and have miles to drive it becomes tedious and boring and this is when your head starts to drop and you have to give yourself a shake to keep going ,if your gp suspects you have sleep apnea they have a duty to inform dvla who will then revoke your driving license until you have been the sleep clinic and are proved to be complient on cpap / apap machine and theres no cheating it as the machine records everything ,you cant just turn your machine on for 8hrs without wearing the mask as this will show up as the pressure will not alter like it should when your breathing in and out ,once complient your clinic will advise dvla that your now complient and they will re issue your driving license with no restrictions ,depending on your council they could revoke your badges until your fit and proper ie letter from clinic or dvla stating your complient ,my council said there was no point in revoking my badges as the situation was only temp and i couldnt use them anyway as i couldnt drive because dvla had revoked my license they just said to pop in when i was complient with the letter from dvla stating i was now fit to drive which i did and they were then happy for me to continue to drive ,i have since passed two medicals no problem and continue to be 100% complient ,i found being upfront about the problem i had helped and my gp and sleep clinic went out of there way to get me complient as i drove for a living ,if you suspect you have sleep apnea dont bury your head in the sand the condition will only get worse without treatment ,good luck

I've been through this ...

Was listening to radio one day and a guy said that snoring was bad for you and could even lead to damaged heart. So next time I was at GP I asked about it cos my wife says I snore a lot. Next thing I know I have a letter to attend sleep clinic and they confirm I have sleep apneoa and give me a cpap machine.

I then get a letter from DVLA saying I have to go for another test. They didn't revoke my licenece, just said I was to go and get a test done. I went back to sleep clinic and they ran a different test. It was to find out if you could avoid falling asleep. They put me in a bed, turned the lights down and waited all day to see if I fell asleep. That was difficult, but I made sure I kept awake.

That gave me the all clear with DVLA.

The best way to reduce the sleep apneoa is to lose weight. Easier said than done I know.

It is also worth mentioning that with Sleep Apnoea, often it never wakes you...your airways block depriving you of oxygen, your heart beats faster and faster until a body jerk is produced which often will temporarily clear the airway. This can happen many times a night (500 is not unusual) ; you never drift into the healing REM sleep. After you wake you think fine, I have had my 8 hours sleep but unknowingly have only had about 2 if you are lucky. Sleep deprivation can lead to all sorts of personality disorders and short tempers, not to mention the impact on the body's immune system that cannot fight of the bugs you would not normally notice. Most important is the effect on your heart...all that rapid beating almost constantly while you sleep; this is said to be directly responsible for 80% of heart attacks in the single over 50's. If you suspect you suffer with it, and do not have a partner to confirm your intrusive sleep pattern...it may save your driving licence, and more importantly your life.

I was diagnosed with this some years back,the first night of CPAP treatment it felt like someone had opened the curtains in the morning! Life again was bliss in less than 24 hours!! Most hospitals loan out the cpap machines long term for free...it can be beneficial to ask for a humidifier to stop your mouth feeling as dry as a camels crutch.

i thought it was good for your heart to beat fast for a prolonged period gets you in the fat burning zone and all that.
funny how its bad for you when your sleeping but good for you when your awake.

It is lol, your heart also needs to be put under stress when excersising to get your body into fat burning mode, your heart rate doesn't need to go through the roof to get into fat burning mode something like 70BPM

It gets you into the fat burning zone when excercising muscle.

Do you normally exercise to get your heart beating 150 bpm every minute over a period of 8 hours?
When exercising the heart beats faster to get oxygen in the blood to the muscles, in Apneoa there is no oxygen. Do you still consider this healthy exercise while you sleep?..can you not spot well intentioned advice that might just save your life when its mounted to the bridge of your nose? You are truly the living image many people like to have of the taxi trade..f..kwit :evil:

a just eat meat fish and cottage cheese and a few nuts and some protien supps
15 stone of raw muscle







and 2 stone of raw fat
been meaning to cut for 2 years :lol:

Thank you sweet cheeks, and there was me thinking you a complete one. Apology accepted with the good grace it was given...there is only one thing now in bed that will get my heart over 80...and that's not even on the horizon any more :wink:
