5.50am start and 4.00pm finish £172 on the clock before fuel and tips and it was a quiet day! I need to earn myself £3500 per month just to pay the bills so how could I pay the bills without making the money I make?? I am a owner and my rental is on top of this but anyone who cannot make £150 after fuel on days must be doing something wrong or sitting on station/airport ranks all day!

As I said £150 after fuel dayshift x 4 and £300 after fuel on a sat night = £900 and this is at this time of year, festival is much more :D :D

trying looking for work instead of sitting around moaning

£17.20 an hour for ten hours and that's when it's quiet. How much do you expect to make on a busy day? :-|

This is a honest to god figure and frankly I don't care what you guys think! They guy asked a question, you gave your answer and I gave mines! Again why would I lie??? I don't know what you guys make but that what I make and thats what I need to make to pay the bills. A busy week day would be about £200 before fuel.

If you still don't believe it then thats fine by me

I can see no reason why a Metropolitan Hack should not earn £200 per day. I'm not sure that I believe that that is true for every day, but I'll no argue.

I just wish us Drivers, out in the sticks, could manage such figures. That's a Saturday night for many of us.

Well £17.20 x 40hrs x 48weeks =£33024 per Annum Gross, minus your costs you're back to that £18-20K income component of the tariff. PSML.

Clearly anomalous situations can and do arise in the Taxi trade or any other business so it's probably better to accept the anomaly and just enjoy it.

More like 55 hours per week with the higher return on the sat night. I could not afford to do this job if it did not pay the bills. Thats why I work my ass off and don't take breaks! But I still enjoy doing it :D

Not the only one making money mate. I know loads of taxis drivers, some make good money, some make ok money and some make poor money. There is no secret but the money is made on the day shift before 10am. If you get up early then you get airport runs. If you think about each one being worth about £17 then you could, if it works out get about 5 before 10. I have a pass for the airport and on a normal day I do 4 jobs back in, some are Gogars or Gyle's but a lot of times you get a town or a country job.

Its not hard to make money early doors as a lot of guys dont want to get up early and these are the guys saying they cannot make money.

Its bloody hard getting up so early but its worth it :D Guys are selling because a lot of them are financed to the max or they cant accept its a different job to when a lot of us started. Having a radio is a must for me due to the hours I work and you can still make money if you hunt for it and chase jobs. You won't make money sitting in ranks like the guys on a sat night who sit 10 deep on the wav or lothian road

when u say you must have a radio i take it you mean renting one for a full week off a firm ?

who and where do the permits for the wav and airport get issued ? does everyone not have one with the cab plate they buy or is that extra again ? seen taxis 20 deep at the airport a few years back .cant see how the guy at the back oh that que would make much of a living ....prob only a few jobs a day if you kept returning there all day ...

seems to be money out all the time for bits and bobs ..

still think your 3500 for bills is a bit much if the guys that u say are up to there eyes in it and not enjoying it what does that make you

Your figures are doable but not every day. You would have to be touched by God, to average between £17 - £20 an hour every day, on day shift. It's also possible to do over £400 on a busy Saturday Night, but not in twelve or even thirteen hours unless you were very lucky indeed.

You are quoting the very best-case scenario for even hungry greedy drivers who work every hour without their arse ever leaving the saddle and chasing every job. I have met guys who can and do work like you claim, but the above would be a stretch for them. From January through to the end of July, you just couldn't do it, not every day, not even close. Furthermore, a whole lot would depend on your starting and finishing times, and if you had extra hours to work when needed.

I think you are being disingenuous making out the above is what you can expect to earn without too much of a problem on a day-to-day basis.

Oh and btw, you are talking about driving almost constantly for the whole time you are in the taxi. You couldn't afford to rank to make the kind of money you claim regularly. :-|
