The LTDA justifies the premium largely on the grounds that Tube drivers negotiated a £1,200 no-strike bonus for the Games.

One other thing that I cannot get my head around - Do tube staff earn anywhere near what a London taxi driver does !? - The tube staff are wrong in what they are doing - and it does not make it right that London taxi drivers should follow suit, having said that there is no comparison in earnings, so why the (they are doing it, so should we attitude). Stuck in traffic or not they will still be earning more than most outside taxi drivers can only dream about, and much much more than the tube.

Do not be greedy guys OR it will soon end.

Perhaps if Cardiff had more stringent standards, then you too could be onto a good thing.

But I'm guessing you have a CRB and some basic 'read a map' test, and the place is now flooded with cab drivers.

That's where the fault is, and that's why we defend the 3 year knowledge with our hearts, and that's why London, along with being the capital, hasn't really crumbled during the recession.

You takes your choices.

I bet the burgers will be cheap, and the pint at the locals near the event, £2 t-shirt with an Audi badge on it for £25.

I spent £4000 on hotels and £1000 on air fares, all was good until the cab driver asked me for £20 #-o

Who are 'they'?

The Mines were shut as it was draining the public purse (apparantly, but that's another thread altogether)

We're the Private sector, self employed with no subsidy, paid for by private individuals and companies.

You mean the request for rate 3 all day, just like we have every night of the week, and every public holiday?

So folks going home from work should pay the pi** head rate?

Can't think of many pi** heads on BHL's, Easter, Boxing day etc ?

Anyway, don't worry about it, we'll decide as a trade whether we want it or not, it's a London issue.

We WILL get more access to the ORN, that much i'm sure of.

PMSL, how true!

The Berkeley to the Gatwick Express - £6.40.

Slips the door ponce a tenner, then says 'that's a lot' to me as we arrive at the drop off point.

FFS.

Honestly they give me the trots, they take a place like London and give it the Halifax hard luck story, if it was New York, Milan, Sidney etc nobody would question it, they'd look at it as an overall package and enjoy themselves, but oh no, little Stevie from Mugdaguilian with a local pop of 10 thinks it's out of order, all bow down to the Stevie's, and where will Stevie be on Olympic day, in his local McDonalds saying can I take your order please as 5 of the town roll in for breakfast.

Thing I've always noticed is this, folks will pay anything to anybody, but when it comes to paying for a ride they always think it's too much, your supposed to say givus a quid for the gas and then they walk off saying what a [edited by admin] giving it to us for a quid.

This is not about the knowledge test or defending your turf so to speak - it is about - the tube drivers have got a bonus - we (London taxis) should have one! - the bottom line being is that there is no comparison and there is no room for greed.

They? They are the government/Boris - The point that I am trying to make is that the Miners were 2/300,000 in strength and they flexed their muscles. They were beaten into the ground because the Gov has an endless resource of tax payers money that they were prepared to use to screw them, and they will ultimately do the same to you. London taxi drivers do not have the same financial clout!!

The likes of Boris/gov will only take sh!t for so long - then pass legislation that mini cabs can/will pick up all over London - and that will be - good bye London cabs - do not say that you have not been warned!

They won't.

Trust me on that one. :D

The Government could deport every person on the dole . . . but they won't.

Sorry Bud, but you ain't got a clue about the London trade, it's issues, TFL, or the strength we show, or our history. London's transport infrastructure survives on a knifedge every day, we can stop it at the drop of a hat, they know that, we know that, and it still has absolutley no similarity with the miners.

More shame other areas didn't have some balls, they might not be in the state they are now with one job every two hours, with drivers who can't speak in English and have no clue about their area or local culture.

As I said, you take your choices as to the area in which to work, I chose the one with the highest standards in the world.

Did you know that there is an age old way to check just how importand anyone is to society and this covers absolutly everyone and everything.
You simply drop who or whatever it is in the sea and then take it/them out again. You then measure the size of the hole left behind and the size of this hole is the measure of importance.
In other words do not, ever, be fooled into thinking that you can't be replaced.

So you do not think that they could find 20/30000 immigrants that would run around London in mini cabs/5/6/7 seater vehicles!!!!!!!!!!! and do your job!!

Do not ever get that smug #-o

We already have 55'000 foreign nationals runnning around London in Minicabs, and I'm still rammed out with customers who prefer us to them.

You see John, people like quality and not chaff in old London Town, and are williing to pay top dollar as well, even four years into the 'recession'.

Besides, we won't let them.

Ain't that the case as well, I'm getting it all the time that the customer doesn't want a foreign driver because, a - they think the driver doesn't know the way, and b - they don't want to get overcharged both blatantly or due to the extra miles that the driver has done, it's not all foreign drivers who do this btw but they all get the stain just the same.
