I heard the advert this morning.

It's not on round here on Capital.

It's still on Smooth. We even get punters asking us if we have done it yet. Still, my badge was renewed last week so I should be ok for another year.

Unless you have been bundled in the try some free scheme it will be you paying, no PH firm is going to stump up £1200 on a driver that could then leave 3 weeks later, you need to find out before you commit yourself or you could find a large bill awaits you.

Thanks Doom. I will be wary. TBH me paying for it cannot be justified. I was hoping for a freebee! I'll let you know. My understanding was it is "funded" which to me sounded like I don't have to pay.

Some of our lads did it about 18 mths ago and it was funded, well sort of, they still lost what they could've earned while they were sitting in a classroom.

I think the whole thing is make yourself rich bull myself, I could teach all they need to know in a day and for £100 per candidate, I was going to sell double glazing some years ago, I had to go on a training course, day one was how to introduce yourself, all fecking day to learn how to knock a door, say good evening, say yours and the company name and that we have an appointment, talk about hanging it out, I went home in the evening, same as these cab college's the very reason for it was they wanted a constant flow of mugs to replace the mugs that had worked it out that the grail earnings weren't there once you hit the street.

Maybe I will look into it, if I can get the license to say I can teach I will set up nationally and do it for £20 per head just to obliterate the £1200 boys overnight.

My argument with the NVQ for taxi driving is this;

OK, expect new entrants to take it, just as I had to do the local knowledge when I started ten years ago even though somebody who had been driving taxi for a couple of years previous didnt need to . That makes sense.

It doesnt make sense for the council to prevent me from making a living in a task Ive been doing for ten years simply because I dont have an NVQ. When I started the course I was told it was voluntary, now that Ive abandoned the course as being useless and sexist and unnecessary Im told it is compulsory.

If the NVQ isnt designed to fail then it has no relevance as it doesnt show that any driver is better than any other.

I discovered I was also doing a BTEC which the council do not want, why?

Is it compulsory around the whole of the UK?

I just dont see how I can lose my source of income of ten years just because I dont have a NOT VERY QUALIFIED piece of paper.

I did the NVQ 2 years ago, all paid for by government! Its a total waste of money, a get rich scheme for someone I am quite sure, when I was on my course we had a guy who could not read or write, a tutor sat with him for the duration of the course and did the lot on his behalf! He passed of course, and now he has his NVQ in passenger transport, he is still working the same rank he has done for 15 years, and he is still reading the Sun doing the crossword daily.

When we all passed we all went to our Licencing office to offer them our certs only to be told, they weren't interested in them.

So he couldn't read and write - but he does The Sun Crossword.

Actually that's probably correct - given the level that is "The Sun Crossword".

Thank you, and you are 100% correct, a scheme for the rich to get some more cash from the poor, funny how tenders are anounced really quietly isn't it.

same here did mine 2 years ago ,we were told at the beginning nobody would fail  we had a asian driver on our course who couldnt answer any questions when asked and just sat with a grin on is face ,when we had to fill paper work in he just sat and copied every thing the guy next to him wrote down ,it was hilarious at the end of the session when the tutor asked why as ben smith handed 2 copies in ,he had even put the other guys name as is own :-D and yes the asian passed ,the nvq is not worth the paper its written on

Why do you need to drive a taxi to teach :?

I thought you wrote that the NVQ was only an assessment of what a driver already knew through experience? :!: :!: :!:
