So the driver gets to hire a plated vehicle for £150 per week, sounds pretty good to me. You can't buy a decent taxi and maintain it for that amount of money and on the plus side if you get fed up or another job you can just leave. There's pros and cons for both arguements

So where does this £150 per week figure come from Toots, did you just make it up?

I suspect you're talking three times that for an exclusive saloon rental in the likes of Brighton.

How much would it cost the driver to run his own vehicle?

So you don't bother about drivers paying £150 just for a plate in York, for example? How does that help them?

No apparently you did

No, I said £150 JUST FOR A PLATE.

You said £150 for a PLATED VEHICLE

Lets get one thing right here. I don't use the trade as a top up. I was a full time driver and I had a little hobby on the side that returned quite a bit of income. I did go part time when I was NVQ assessing and I still had my little hobby. Currently I'm not driving in the trade and I'm not playing with my little hobby nor do I do any NVQ assessments. I may return full time as a driver but there again I may not but I will remain in some way involved with the trade I just haven't decided how. I will never use the trade as a top up, it will, when I return to it be my main income but I may still have my little hobby. With regard to the subsidy I'm not a taxi driver I'm ph when I'm working in the trade so I doubt very much I'd be entitled to a subsidy

So why would subsidies be paid to taxi drivers and not PH?

By the way, thanks for the life history, but it was almost getting to the 'too much detail' stage.

Personally I have no idea but it seems there are a lot on here that say taxis are part of the public transport system whereas ph aren't

Probably, but in the vast majority of cases the plate is attached to a vehicle, and the driver is hiring both. The plate rental element only arises because of restricted numbers.

I will admit to not reading this properly

Still not sure how much you think the cost of a taxi rental is in Sefton. I was shocked the other day however to find out the cost of ph rental in Sefton
