Hi,I wish to know if i can buy myself radio to work for a taxi company instead of renting it from them.
Is that possible??
I`m starting as a PH driver self-employed,just wondering if it is possible to do that,if so would anybody know which kind of radio and how much???
Many thanks....Marek

I'm sure any of them would sell you a radio if the price was right.
Doesn't mean you would get any work off it though.
It's the work you pay for, not the equipment.

Not if he can listen in, and get to the jobs before the regular drivers.

Then all he needs is a scanner  That's if any offices are still using voice radio........

Anything is possible, but I can't see why a PH firm would want to sell you a radio, and I'm even less sure why you would want to buy one. :?

The firm will rent you one for a fee.

I think you might be getting a bit confused. The term radio-rent is widely used in the taxi industry to describe what you pay a company in return for them providing you with the work. The cost of a second hand radio might be about £50 but having your own radio doesn’t mean you then get any discount on your "radio rent".

I suppose a case could be made for new start up firms to encourage drivers to buy their own radios, to help off-set the initial costs, but the firm will still need weekly money from drivers to pay the other bills.
