I'm saying a cab driver.....yes an owner driver has a specific target in mind when he goes to work......the majority I know stay at work till they reach that target.......if you want me to send out the reasons why they shouldnt, I'd be delighted, although I think they starving to death argument may currently hold sway.

What if they haven't reached that target by the end of 24 hrs?
After that, they are chasing the next day's target. Without any sleep, I might add.

What happens to the renting driver who has to return the cab after 12 hours?
Presumably he's the one sitting at home committing seppuku, next to his emeciated family?

BTW Do you know of any drivers or owner drivers in this country, who's children have starved to death due to the current economic climate?

No, but I know of a few divorces, a few cab reposessions, and lost houses.

And a couple of suicides.

Clearly times are hard, and drivers will need to do what they can to meet the bills that they have, and no-one is or would criticise them for that.

But working more and more hours only succeeds, in the long term, if the rest don't.

We had one this year.....E7 owner....jumped off the roof of the cab after attaching rope to a branch....he was seriously in debt, working 7 days a week.....and he lost his son two years before.

They are only working that long due to them taking something, no one can work a 36 hour shift straight without sleep then drive 20 miles back to Derby then be back again 4 hours later doing another 24 hour shift.
