Look around you boys and girls.

Cos you're now gonna be seeing precisely who you're really competing against.

The council has sanctioned company and fone details to go on PH. Something the trade has long resisted.

But, like derestricting numbers, this was always gonna happen. Why?

Because PH is strong and they want it.

It is the case in just about every other licensing authority (another example of how Edinburgh's licensing is in the dark ages).

Women's groups want it for safety reasons.

The cab inspector wants it for safety and regulatory reasons.

The drivers want it so they can connect with their passengers better and provide better service.

Customers want it because, whether you like it ot not, they want to recognise the TAXI (yup, I'll say it again - their TAXI) they've booked.

And Smart?

Well the innovative bods in ECPH have come up with another a service, permission granted at the same RC meeting.

Consider how many times you pick up fares consisting of only one passenger? Quite a few I'll bet. Single guys and gals just going out for the night to meet with friends, executives going to the airport, staff going home.

Now consider a cheaper, green and environmentally friendly Smart car, nipping through traffic, cost effective fuel wise offering a streamlined service in this cost effective vehicle servicing these markets? Compare this to the capital intensive hackney offering, from a trade determined to hike costs rather than compete for customers and the trade now has serious problems.

The taxi trade sticks rigidly to all that it has protected for years, PH expands its business by being cost effective and innovative.

And we haven't told you all of this was coming for years? Didn't you listen to the Skull talking about the effect of technology and the need to adapt? Well, he was right. It's here now.

Have a nice day now, ya hear!!!

I can just see it.

“ I’d like to order a cab please “.

Controller, “ Certainly sir, for how many” ?

“ Erm, just me, why ?”

“ Cos’ we’d like to send round a tiny totsy motor with room for just one passenger. Plus, being only inches away from the driver means it will be a lot easier for you to give him directions” .

Ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!

Now, let me see.

Vetted drivers. Yup, that's a yes. just like the taxi trade.

Cheap, and cost effective. Yup, but not like the taxi trade.

Quick and nippy? Scooting up the greenways, because its green

Company chairman and other executives? Nope probably not. But the myriad employees? When major companies like RBS are going to great lengths to prove to government, shareholders and customers that they are not being profligate? Absolutely.

Anyone doubt that those making the money decisions will jump at a service like this?

Back to the drawing board fairplay. Your lot, given your rush to prove how stupid you are, must be shechting themselves.

Seriously, maybe smart cars will be a success, I dunno’. But has all the practicall issues really been considered ?. I think the customer appreciates the degree of privacy, “Physical barrier,” and distance from the driver, that a Hack provides. I think the driver appreciates this as well. A PH car, with the passenger in the back also provides this, albeit to a lesser extent.
The first thing punters do when they get in the Cab ?... Stick their faces into their mobiles. How are they going to feel with a stranger inches away from them, listening to their call, or watching them text ?. I’m sure that when someone phones for a Phc they get in the back of the car for these reasons.

( It’s taken ages to post this..... a’ cannae’ stop laughing...) Ha ha ha ha ha ha !!

Interesting, because in my experience punters prefer not to have a screen.

I can understand why drivers want screens, but if punters prefer them then that's makes drivers in your manor a right iffy mob.

Most punters down here trust the drivers.

"Women groups want it for safety"

So the vulnerable lone female siting even closer to a possible assailant is "safer". Aye ok, good one. And the last 2 unfortunate attacks on lone, vulnerable women was by predators pretending to be PH drivers

"smart cars use the greenway as theyre greener"

Eh, no! Greenways arent regulated by the emissions emitted from the vehicles. It's to ease congestion

You really are a clown Taylor, ECPH must be paying you pretty well!

Quality. I love your pain

Greenways are to ease congestion

Plank.

Greenways are designed to get buses through the congestion restricting the road causes. End of.

And I'm glad you find me funny

I doubt if anyone can conclude that all passengers like a screen or not. Some no doubt do, some won't.

It also probably has a lot to do with other aspects of the vehicle rather than a screen per se.

But even if some passengers don't like a screen, there's a bit of a difference between that and being in the driver's lap

Are the Smart cars to be offered as a distinct service at a discounted price? If so I could understand the attraction to the customer.

But if they just turn up at random then I suspect there'll be quite a few disgruntled customers.
