Saw this on the Edinburgh tariff card. Bet it's followed to the letter  :

Quote:
The Airport Extra is only payable if passenger is dropped off in the covered inner drop-off zone at Edinburgh Airport and the driver has explained to the passenger before the start of the journey - (1) He will take the passenger to the drop off point just beside the airport terminal and that there is a £1 extra for this. (2) If the passenger states he is disabled, the £1 extra still has to be paid, but the driver understands that the passenger can reclaim this from the airport at the drop-off point. (3) If the passenger wishes to avoid the £1 extra, he can be taken to an outer drop-off point. However, this is further from the airport terminal, involves the use of a free shuttle bus and will require more time for the passenger to get to the airport terminal.

Of course, apart from the fact that drivers seem highly unlikely to properly explain the drop-off charge (if at all) as required by the tariff card, since the card is in fact intended to improve price transparency for the customer why would the driver need to explain it at all - the customer will be reading it, presumably?

Of course, the reality is that tariff cards do little to help the customer, and the likelihood of the driver adequately explaining this particular charge seems pretty remote, at least in the vast majority of cases.

Thus yet another thing dreamt up by people driving a desk which may seem reasonable in theory but has little real-world relevance.

So if the passenger is dropped elsewhere then the basic fare will presumably either be cheaper or dearer than if dropped at the drop-off point, so shouldn't this also be explained to the passenger?

If the council can't properly explain the pros and cons then what chance the driver? #-o

its has been a problem but that particular part of the tariff has been in place for ages.

the punters always think your at it, especially when it was first introduced.had a few sceptics ask for the free drop off point until you got them there and they were like wtf take me to the front door heres the £1 its miles away

its the £2 pick up that city/central want thats the problem
as the airport is only open to them, then that will never be passed until they let anyone who wants a permit get one.
until then they will have to take the hit unfortunately .

So you didn't explain it properly then as required by the tariff card? QED [-(

So what's the difference in the basic fare between the two drop-off points - presumably the fare to the "outer drop-off point" without the £1 charge is more expensive anyway?

the 2 points are probably equidistant
so the terminal is dearer by a quid
i never had any probs but its just a pig trying to explain it to the punter, makes you feel like a snake oil salesman

Thanks Ali, when the card said that the 'outer drop-off point' required a shuttle bus to the terminal then I assumed it as either a lot closer or further than the £1-a-drop point.

But the council should have just said it was 'equidistant' (gosh, that's a big word for this time in the morning) as you say, and that would have clarified things, obviously
