Depends what the relevant council says about the matter, because each has its own rules and the Zafira is one of those motors where some councils will allow all the seats to be used, while others will only allow it to be used as an estate car.

But since everyone from Captain Cab to the Law Commission say "councils know best", then abandoning this kind of mishmash of rules and bureaucracy seems an unlikely prospect. [-(

There are 4 Zafiras being used in my borough as hackney Carriages. If I need luggage space in mine I use a top box.

ITS OK WITH THE COUNCIL BUT IN THE ZAFIRA THERE ISNT MUTCH ROOM WHEN THE BACK SEATS ARE UP SO I WAS THINKING OF RUNNING IT AS A 5 SEATER

The zafira only has 6 passenger seats BTW, plus driver =7
There are 8 in use in my town, all are licenced to carry 6 passengers, 95% of the time you will find you will only be carrying 1 to 4 folk, but its better to have the licence for the full load, so if you have 5 or 6 you can charge fare and a half
There are not a lot of 6 seaters on the market that can carry 6 plus all there luggage, the way around this is get a tow bar fitted and get a small trailer for airport work,

Well in my manor the Zafira drivers tend to operate it as a six-seater when it's a decent run, but miraculously it'll only take four passengers when a group of six want to go half a mile up the road

And don't listen to what Skippy says about charging fare and a half - that may well be the case, but again each council makes its own rules, and you may not be able to charge anything extra at all.

And bearing in mind he's new to the licensed industry he may well be talking PH not HC?

Indeed, and my initial reply didn't draw any distinction since my point about the mishmash of rules applied equally to HC and PH.

But Skippy's subsequent input seemed to suggest it was HC, which I kind of assumed in my most recent post.

But in any case while my comments were aimed primarily at HC I said nothing that couldn't really be applied to PH as well depending on the rules and practices used in any particular local authority area, for example if PH charge HC fares.

Mr PEAKY74, is your Zafira to be used as a Hackney Carriage (HC) or private hire vehicle (PH)?
